ok its that time that I get to put on my 02 housing and downpipe. My buddy has a lift, and he has already put the needswings downpipe on his car. But we have never done a o2 housing before. Is there any secrets or input or any help any of u guys can help me out with on what to watch for or becare full of. I know not to break the bolts off ill soak them with PB blaster, but other then that. Ive heard its a major PAIN and it looks like it will be alot of fun!!!:
it is a major pain. took me three hours to do my first one. omfg i will never do another one again without taking off the turbo. the only suggestion that i can give you is to make sure you have plenty of extensions, and if possible get the ones that swivel. and have a lot of beer on hand lol
Even with a lift? what is so hard? so would it be easiest to take off the turbo connect it then put it back on?
Tackling the lower heatshield is what I've heard is a pain. I've heard of people being able to take it off without destroying it but a lot of people just cut it up lol. It may seem so easy but its not. I got a Maxxfab O2 housing sitting here waiting for install. Remember PB Blaster is your friend.
heres a tip take off the bracket holding on to the manny and than u can take the lower heat shield off and good luck
I have an o2 housing in my garage it has been there for 6 months... I have a feeling it will stay there for much longer...
ROFLL ^^^^^ i didn't even wanna BOTHER trying it and thats why i sold it.. it was a really nice piece, and im sure its worth it, but i really didnt feel like getting super frusterated.
I thought about doing the 02 housing when I have my Neon. The HP to fustration level just wasnt worth it...GL
I remember when I got my ED SEE with AGP 3'' 02 housing. Had a local shop install it all. He said he would charge me $120 in labor. The old tech took 4 hours to get it all done. Still only got charged for $120. lol He had like 5 cigarettes in that time period. I went over there a couple times and he looked pissed. He had the oil line on top of the turbo off and a bunch of other stuff. I brought in a picture of the PTP modified heatshield and he cut the old one to look just like that. I say just buy the PTP lower heatshield and hack your old one off. My buddy on the other hand had good luck with his o2 housing on his neighbors lift. He said it only took him 45 minutes. Everything went smoothly. I would recommend doing it on a lift. I could only imagaine how hard it owuld be on jackstands...
haha yea me too on the jack stands. Thank god i have a buddy with a lift. i hope it all goes smoooth 45 min would be nice!!!
HAHA in my dreams it may take that long. I will hopefullly get it done. We should be able to between the 2 of us. im sure u will get a reply on how bad it was either way.
I just did mine about a month ago. Took the Maxfabb off to put the stocker back on. Only took about an hour, in my garage with jackstands. Once you do it the first time, it really is easier.
