As most of you know, I have been fighting to pass emissions since November, 09.

With Dave's continual tuning, we FINALLY got the car to pass emissions with FLYING colors.

Dave has spent countless hours trying to nail the emissions tune down, and I can not thank Dave enough.

Up next, reinstall the upgraded fuel lines and let Dave tune 1bad4dr with a proper tune. :)

    Thanks Dave.

    Oh yea. lol

    1) Getting the PCM to get to its duty cycle.

Found that the original (locked) emissions tune from Russ (formerly of Techco) had the Random Misfire parameters turned off. Once this was discovered (thanks Johan from Diablo), we were able to get the PCM to pass the duty cycles. Woot.

    2) Continually going to my dealership so that they can plug the car into their emissions machine (free of charge ) to see where all the HC, O2, ect.. levels were at. The HC's were always reading high and Dave kept taking fuel out. Then one day the mechanic mentioned that the HC's levels are high because I don't have any cats. So this got me thinking (yea, it hurt lol), I have O2 sims and anti foulers, so this should fool the OBDII check (the dealer was gauging the HC by using the sniffer). So, I go to my guy who does the emissions and low and behold, the HC's pass. Unfortunately I am throwing P0171 and P0174 (Lean conditions banks 1 and 2) which is failing the test.

Discussed with Dave some more, and Dave throws more fuel at it. Still getting codes. Dave throws more fuel and I datalog. Still getting codes.

Dave studies the datalog and finds that the PCM is still calling for 30% more fuel in closed loop.

BINGO! No more codes and I PASS emissions. YEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAW.

My time is coming, maybe easier just to do an engine swap to get by here in CA. Glad to hear you got it licked Ron!

Ron, you could move to SC where there exists no conflict between performance tuning and emisions tests. For example, I built my own high flow cats by taking a broom stick and knocking all that crap out. Just a thought for you guys who have to contend with this balancing act. But the DA's here do suck.

No need Chuck. There are a couple ways for you to beat C.A.R.B. When you're ready, let me know.
lol Well it just so happens that I live in the ONLY county in NM that has emissions. haha And it is the same as CA minus C.A.R.B inspection.

    Thanks Fredrik.

Was a huge relief. NM allows two, 30 day temp tags. I had 2 weeks left on my second temp. hahahaha

When I was in Germany, we had to have our cars physically inspected for safety as well. So much that you drove the car over a pit and they went through the car with a fine tooth comb. My old 76 BMW (this was in 1988) had a couple of 1 inch rust holes in the floor board and I had to patch them up before they would sign off on the inspection sheet. lol

That would be TÜV, we have their cousin in Sweden...
They test pretty much everything, and any mods on cats, intake or internals are not allowed.
I´ll be trying to hide a blower if all goes well!:D
So I´ll be spending some wrenchtime taking it out and putting it in again every year.
Maybe I should opt for a 426 or a 440 but thats out of my reach.

Me and a friend is thinking about reversing the steering on an old Volvo and take it to the testfacility. Imagine the guys face on the testdrive... LOL
Apart from the steering the car should be mint, an old rusbucket will not be so much fun!:magic:
By reversing I mean that when you turn the wheel to the left the car goes right, I´ve driven a car like that on a slalom course once, do I have to say it wasn´t easy...
