I always wondered why the Roe setup was done like that. Sean and his crew are usually pretty good with this stuff. While it doesn't starve the supercharger of air, it's certainly not getting as much as it could. I think your plan to move it down towards the stock filter box area is a good one. I remember seeing someone else's SRT-10+TMTS setup done like that. I'll bet ya a dozen donuts you see a HP/TQ increase as well. My next test is going to be over by the stock air box location, just after the grille baffle (that directs air to the stock air box location). The baffle on the opposite (driver's) side is flat and does not direct air. It's basically an aesthetic piece to closely match the pass. side baffle. When the temp gets down below 90F outside, I'll go out to the truck and move stuff around. I'm going to do a separate thread for requests, and then post links to the test results when completed. That way folks won't have to search through a bunch of threads to check air flow of a specific area. EDIT- Here's a link to the Request thread: http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7016
Hey Kev, do you think some sort of "eyelash" or eyelid" type of mod to the front of the scoop would make a difference? This might create the "funnel".
Joe- I'm not sure. My guess would be that the 'eye lid' would stand about 12-14" above the hood. I think the aerodynamics of the front of the truck really shoot air 'up and over'. More testing today! (check the CAI test thread)
The vent is obviously grabbing a LITTLE air and bringing it in; the speed tells us that, but also check out the temp (115F at idle; 80F-ish at speed). At least what it is bringing in is slighlty cooler than the ambient outside temp (around 93F today, with 70% humidity). Based on this statement I wonder if this is a possible secondary location for an IAT?
Heh, Kevan. Have you noticed that when you look under your hood things still don't look quite right? Even after you trimmed your hose clamps. It's the extra threads sticking out past the nuts! With a cutoff and your dremel you can trim most of those bolts flush and it will look sooo much better. grin:Haha, I feel better now.) Actually I'm really pleased I trimmed up my clamps. Would have done it before but I kept hoping to find really nice looking stainless ones and your how-to inspired me to do it.
Oh Dave....ye who do not know me yet.... My OCD knows no bounds. You're in for a helluva ride.
