Does anyone have any info on installing a hard wire for a radar detector? I have a Escort 9500i and a pre-manufactured hard wire kit.
I would use the power outlet on the left side. It runs on accessory. You can get more info on WKjeeps.com
To far out of the way. I need something near the visors. Isn't there switched power up in the overhead?
that thing is clean! Mine is black too, Mine has been that clean for a total of 45 minutes about 6 different times...lol. What products do you use? Sorry to change the subject.
Why not just get the 8" version of this, run the power from the UConnect mirror, and be done in several minutes. This is a pic of my V1. I use this setup in both my rides. http://www.invisicord.com/order.html#products
I have the same setup as Zoo for an Escort 9500i. You need one of these (nice): http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/ConnectorForRadarDetector.htm and the invisicord. Only downside is you do without the Escort smart cord but with the block feature on the 9500i you don't need one except for maybe on trips.
good info, thanks. I was going to mount on the visor, Ill just fabricate something like those mounts.
Well, with the invisicord you're going to lose the Escort SmartCord button. That's less of a big deal with the 9500i since you can block the known false alarms on your regular routes. Pretty cool. Every signal has a unique signature. So the X band signature from a shopping mall door opener will be different than the X band signature from the door opener on the store next to it. By hitting the mute button 3 times on the detector you can block the current signal. It remembers the GPS location and the signature and doesn't alert for it in the future. Now if a cop uses X band at the same location it will still trigger for that (different signature). That alone is worth the price of upgrading -- but they don't offer the 9500i with blue LEDs, dammit. They do a couple of other things with the GPS too that aren't much use to me like location warning and speed via GPS. You can always reach up to hit the mute button but I agree it's not as convenient as hitting the smart cord button I used to have mounted on my side of the center console. If you don't have the smart cord then you still got to lean forward to hit the lighter plug or the unit.
I have my invisicord but not sure what wires to tap into.I have 07 SRT8fully loaded. They do have instructions for an 08 SRT8,but the wires are different colored. Please help. Thank You Dave
I do not have a pink green wire can you check yours again also wich plug are you using on back of mirror. thanks for your time Dave
From the drivers seat turn the UConnect mirror away from you towards the passenger Locate the lower plug Slide the pink wire into the farthest slot and the green into the next one. Hope that makes sense? I was actually able to figure this out originally by going to their website and looking for Chrysler products/UConnect/Invisicord.
(lol, wasn't such a hot description Zoo... :erm I wasn't going to say anything 'cause I have an '06 Magnum and it might not be the same and it's parked outside in the dark at the moment but the pins they suggested in the invisicord instructions weren't quite right. Long time ago and I can't remember if it wasn't switched or what the problem was. So. Orientation -- don't move the mirror. Bottom plug starting from the wire most towards the passenger side. That was for ground? then invisicord said use the next one? but I had to use the one over from that. So I *think* I used the first and third wire going from the passenger side. When the instructions were wrong I used my trusty RadioShack digital multimeter. That way you can tell what's ground and what's hot and what's not and when. Everyone should own a digital multimeter. Even if it's a cheapo RadioShack one. The one I got is a clamshell affair where the wires and probes fit neatly in the cover and it closes up to a little case like one you'd carry business cards in. (maybe I used wires #1 and #2 from the passenger side?)
Now now Quick lol. In daylight tomorrow, take a peak and my description will make sense. Or maybe it makes sense to me because I've had a few cervezas...ha ha!
