Hal, didn't know you were goin thru all that. Glad your keeping on top of it man. I just found out my cholesterol is thru the roof, looks like oatmeal and salads for me! :sorry:
On the cholesterol thing, if you're missing butter, try replacing it with extra virgin olive oil. It has the good cholesterol and close to the same flavor/consistency of melted butter. Something my mom started doing when she had to give up the bad stuff.
I'm working at it. Still working out what works for me. Oatmeal about 5 times a week. Getting ready for a bowl right now. Use 1% milk, cinnamon, and Splenda. Lots of salad. Had Italian last night. My number went up to 229 two hours later. Lots of antipasto salad with creamy garlic dressing, a couple of small pieces of bread with EVOO, a Italian sausage/beef sandwich, which I only had 2 bites of the bread, took the meat out, wasn't very good, just ate that, and about 5 fries. So over half of what I ate was salad. Had a Breyer's carb smart ice cream bar as a snack, took my evening meds, and my number was 98 this morning. I've come to the conclusion that my body reacts differently to the same foods on different days. It's confusing at best.
Probably the dressing (most of the calories in salad is dressing which has a lot more than you might think) and yeah, bread and fries are really starchy which means lots of calories. Check out CalorieKing.com. I use them to gauge what I'm eating when I go out. They have caloric info for most national chains as well as estimates based on the measurement and type of foods commonly found in restaurants. If nothing it else, it makes you look at how you eat differently.
i've got the calorie king handbook. I'm trying to get more exercise. My legs and feet have been hurting to much
Hal, that is great news, the invitation is still open if you’re ever in Vacaville, Murillos is on me!!
Hal, (need to double check)...but I think the Beyer Double Churned ice cream (has 40 cal.) has less calories and less sugar that the carb smart (has 80 cal).
Hal just FYI my wife was on ALL of the medications you are on and had everything you listed in your first post. We worked together to lose the weight we gained, I dropped over 100lbs and she dropped over 60 and she has been taken off all of her meds. Just FYI. If you want some help I'll be happy to do whatever I can, it'll be worth it as you'll feel much better and live a heck longer. Me before: Me/wife After and we're still working on it daily.
Thanks Mike. I'll probably take you up on that offer. I knew you had lost weight, but not that much. That's great that your wife is off all her meds. I'd like to to that myself. I know it won't be easy, and I know I need to kick up the exercise. I've been sedatary for quite a few years. I'm in San Diego now, San Jose next week, and SpringFest after that. Maybe we can get together early next month.
