So, One of my buddies is over in the sand box right now on a deployment. He will be home for the holidays and his wife would like to get him something good. They are on a fairly limited budget but he would like to get a new stereo for his 03 explorer. Can anyone give me suggestions as to the best possible head unit and front speaker combination for under $300? He was looking at this head unit http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=300&i=113KDCX492&tp=5684 and these speakers http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=400&i=113KFC6882&tp=105 I haven't really looked into this since i did the stereo in the mustang back in 04 so i dont know whats good or not....anyone have any thoughts or comments or suggestions? Any input would be appreciated :thanks:
That is exactly what i said when she asked me. That's what I had in the mustang. Pioneer up front....all the speakers were Infinity's and my subs were Audiobahn's. I am also considering price on this one. We know theres better stuff, but we are looking for cost for the $. If anyone knows of a good head unit model with the same features as the one posted im up for lookin at it (as long as the price is reasonable).
I like Pioneer & Eclipse head units as well. Really depends on how serious he will get with this stereo. If he will be running external amps, check the head units pre-amp output voltage. I know back in the day, most Eclipse head units put out 5 volts. Standard is like 2 volts and the better units put out 4 volts. But if no external amps are going to be used, this doesn't matter.
i am liking the kicker speakers in the car....i didnt think they would be as good as they are even for the "upgraded" system
Does anyone know of any reason NOT to get the kenwood?....bad quality? anything like that? I ask cause my buddy says that he prefers the kenwood one so long as its not gonna die on him in like 4 months lol
Nothing wrong with Kenwood. They make decent stuff, and their Excelon line is pretty good. Everybody just has different preferences.
i fried one once. took it back to the px and claimed it didnt work. the guy opened the box and couldnt touch the head unit it was so hot hahaha. i still got away with it:shifty:
i always had Alpine headunits and loved them .. performance was great and never had a problem with them ... for that budget i would break it up .. for 300 get a quality headunit .. then with xmas coming up maybe a brother or sister can kick in for a good 150ish set of speakers ..
I like stock. so im not much help.LOL ive had a few sonys in the past and no complaints on sound quality. good Hi's and Mid's and then got a sub to take care of the lows in both my Stratus and Camero. the skittle and cruiser have stock and Mustang has nothing LOL.
without getting into too much detail....what he gets from his wife will be what he gets regarding this. I had that thought as well, or like a good head unit then for another holiday good speakers but they just don't have the budget for it...we need to pay our damn soldiers more!!!!
