i was thinking of modifying the exhaust on my csrt8 wanted to delete the suitcase or the mufflers and put strait pipes in its place any thoughts on this dont want to pay any money for exhaust
i wanted more sound, so i did ran pipe where the mufflers after the mids were located. not sure how much performance is gained though.
probably wont gain a whole lot just but cutting everything out...just getting replacement mufflers (from magnaflow or borla or whoever) wouldn't be too expensive and would probably be better on the performance wise (just on the way it has the exhaust gases flow). You would also need the cats either removed/modified/replaced w/ hiflow's to get some more performance. guess it depends on how much your looking for....you wont get a whooooooole bunch though... my personal vote if you dont want to spend money is just cut off the resonators..
from what i understand...the suitcase mufflers on there flow alright for a stock exhaust...I'd say start with the resonators and then go from there... regardless until you get to the cats i do not think you will see an overwhelming difference in performance
now my problem would be is were do i get pieing to fit were i cut if its 3 inch wouldnt i need to know somone with a manderal bender
For where the cat is, probably....for where the resonators are no its just a straight piece of pipe.... but you could always piece together piping thats pre bent if you cant get it mandrill bent...you might need to buy a few pieces and cut them up and weld them together in the right shape... I am assuming your doing this yourself correct?
http://www.srtconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7582 your better off buying this cat back right here and throwing it on (he is selling it for $100 when its really like a $1000 catback)...and instead of cutting out the cats you can just bore out whats inside them and call it a day
yes im doing it myself when i replace the cats with the straight pipe or my o2 senors after my cats or they in th the cats
yeah they are....just take out the cat part on the inside and leave it there so it is a straight pipe....it will be much easier on you than trying to put in piping to match up
keep the cats, replace the suitcase with some magnaflow "wide open" series muffs, and for go the reso's!!!! if you just cut out the reso's, you will experience drone on levels that will drive you nuts!!! unless you are into having the dash vibrate itself loose!!! lol
I'm sure I'll be in the minority here, but here it goes. At our last dyno day, (with no less than 20 SRT8's getting dyno'd) the dyno operator/shop owner remarked that EVERY SRT8 with an aftermarket exhaust was making LESS torque with an aftermarket exhaust. Yes EVERY and yes LESS. I know all you gear heads understand about back pressure and the effects it has on torque. Back pressure, within reason, is a good thing. A properly engineered exhaust will make more torque than open headers. Now with cars as heavy as ours, what do you think we need more of? Horsepower or torque? Rather than debate this, because frankly I'm not an engineer, let me tell you about my experience. I had the Magnaflow highflow cats and catback on my last SRT8. When I bought my new one I saved the highflow cats, but ditched the catback. I installed these with the JBA catback. After a year of LOUD exhaust, I've had enough (and so's the wife). So today I re-install the stock exhaust but keep the Magnaflow highflow cats in place. Now for the fun part. Of course it's quieter, that's a given. But will it give me more seats of the pants grunt. I honestly didn't expect to feel the 5-10 ft./lbs. of torque that I believed that it would make, but I did! And I saw it. I left my neighborhood and ran up to the hwy for some runs. Definitely feels stronger and definitely pulls better down low. Now this is with no more loud exhaust note to fool you into thinking your flying when you're not. Here's the best part. As I exited the hwy to pull onto a surface street, I have to stop. The engine is now at 200*+ and it's 87* out here. Hardly horsepower making conditions. I pulled onto the surface street and as I caught second I began to leave rubber for roughly 80 to 100 ft. That's all the proof I needed. My advice - Keep the stock exhaust and ditch the CAT's. The CAI gives me all the happy noises I want.
I had my exhaust done 95% for the sound  haha...thats why i have MF hiflow cats and flowmaster super 44's and thats it...god i love the sound hahaha
i have always been a flowmaster fan just dont want to spend money on 5 extra horsepower when i could use it twords something els
