So I want to do the side molding and "HEMI" badges tomorrow if the weather holds up (which it should) So 2 questions 1) Think there will be any color issues? the car is an 07...i dont think there is....its pretty well hidden from the sun 90% of the day lol.... 2) Any tips on the easiest way to do this and tools (like bug and tar remover or something) that will help? Thaaaaaaaaaaanks :thanks:
Heat gun (or hair dryer) Fishing Line Zippo Lighter Fluid (to remove any glue residue) Wax (to wax where lighter fluid was used)
check..... I have some pretty hard core bug/road tar remover that i use to get the rubber off the back of the car when i get home from the track...i might try that too cause its cake to use and wash's right off too...
heat gun fishing line wd-40 (works like zippo fluid) wax small amount of heat at one end, start with fishing line, once started peel off by hand slowly trying to keep most of the double sided tape on the molding piece. use wd-40 on any remaining tape residue and then wax. do not be surprised of you see some signs in the paint where the molding were. the adhesive tape used to hold them on can "bleed" into the clear on the car. believe it or not, a few weeks in the sun and the elements and the marks generally disappear!!! that and repeated waxings!!! lol
Use your fingers and thumbs you wimp! At most you might need something like a credit card to get it started if you've chewed off your finger nails. ...oh, the badge might be a little tougher. My side molding was glued with a strip at the top and a strip at the bottom. It was not completely glued. Get it started and pull slowly. Hair dryer if it's not hot outside. Warning: there will likely be dust and dirt accumulation under there. Do not grind it into the paint. Remove molding, wash, then use your thumbs to roll off the adhesive (unless your hands are too girley), then wash, then wax. Mine was a year and a half old when I did it. No color problems. Of course it had been Zaino'd since a month after I got it. Zaino has UV blockers in it.
like ever one said a little hair dryer is all you need they pull right up. I have a 300c so it had a 300c hemi badge thing that pits perfectly over the glovebox handle and now it sits here and looks factory
