As you may or may not know, southern California is getting pounded with some winter rain storms. Here in San Diego, we had rain starting at about 2:30, then torrential rain from 5-6:30. I leave work at 6:15. As I come out of my office complex, I have to make a right turn from the left turn lane (so 2 over) due to the high water in the other 2 lanes. Get on the highway, slow but no big deal. Get off on my exit, make a left and drive through some seriously flowing water. I stop and see the road is flooded over and far too, one car dead in the water, trucks jumping the curb to turn around, etc. So I back up on this 6 lane road with oncoming traffic, back on the highway to try and come home from the west. Get off the highway OK, then about 1 mile from home HUGE flooding in one of the intersections. I saw a jacked up truck in deeper than his axles. Flip an illegal U, then another to try and go through the shopping center's lot to avoid that intersection...also flooded. Another illegal U turn. OK, so I'll try the river road. Its always flooded, but I only have 2 choices left. Drive a few miles to the beginning of the road, OK for the first 1/2 mile then more flooding. I pulled into the center (thank god there's no curb) and watched the edge of the water in oncoming traffic. Cars were getting by in their far right lane...wait for a break in traffic...gun it to get around far left on the wrong side of the 6 lane road. Luckily, it was uneventful the rest of the way home. So my 10 minute commute turned into 45 minutes of running around and stressing that I was going to run through water deep enough to hydrolock my motor.
haha just as bad up here in NorCal... Glad you made it home though. Avis upgraded me to a nice new Camaro.. muahahahaha if they only knew...
That sucks..... Hers a fun fact...ESP kicks off your cruise control when you start hydroplaning... Guess how I found that out! *edit* I was not using cruise, but it was on at the time......
Gotta love how Cally designs it's roads for no water run off, and builds homes and business' in river beds... then they wonder why it floods out when it rains hard here...Lol! Glad you didn't get stuck in it.
Hers a fun fact...ESP kicks off your cruise control when you start hydroplaning... Guess how I found that out! Yeah, but on our old Volvo it doesn´t, that means you can stick it in third or forth, engage it at high revs and just keep going sideways... Only done it a few times and its scary as hell as you loose one important control. In other words, its a good thing! To get back on topic, snow may after all be better than rain!:cold: Fredrik
I feel your pain...seems like we just went through all the same problems a few months back. I think 3 or 4 of the roads that I usually travel flooded, plus one of the freeways...it was a mess...and I wasn't even in the worst of the flooded areas. Yup...no fun! :wallbash:
Yikes I can only imagine how scary that must have been and one of the reasons why I switched to a high breather CAI for this time of year (still have my nice BWoody for car shows).
