    UPDATE 12-03-08

    We have a week and a half, don't forget to drop by your local toy store! We have sixteen people on the list and while it may not sound like much, that's a lot of giving :) Tell your friends and your friends' friends... The more, the merrier! But make them bring toys too ;-)
    UPDATE 11-17-08

    Saturday 12/13 it is. Don't worry, the Bears play Thursday that week :p Let's shoot for 1PM? Late enough to let people run errands and whatever, early enough that people can get on w/ their rowdy Saturday nights. Any objections, speak now, or forever hold your piece. I mean peace. We're lookin' strong w/ our list but I know there are more folks that would love to come out! And if you can't make it but would still like to share the holiday spirit, don't forget to click here:

    UPDATE 11-05-08

    I'm looking at Old Chicago at:
    1000 Busse Rd
    Elk Grove, IL

    They have absolutely stellar food and an amazing selection of bottled and draft beers... well over 100 in fact! And their big cookie is off the charts!
    It's also close to an expressway, has plenty of parking (says them), and no charge to reserve for a group. Sounds like a win-win-win to me! Input welcome of course!!!!

    As far as dates, I'm looking at the 2nd weekend of December - either Saturday 12/13 or Sunday 12/14. This will be rain or shine (or sleet or snow)... you don't have to bring your LX, this one is all about the people and the toys. All I ask is that you bring a toy or toys in like-new condition to be donated to Toys For Tots. The more the merrier of course! Depending on how much people bring, I may need one or two people to help me cart the stuff to a drop-off, but we can sort that out then.

    What could possibly be better than knowing you helped give a kid a Christmas to remember? And so as not to discriminate - it's not about faith for a five-year-old, it's about going to school and not having to lie about toys they didn't get when they see their friends. Everyone needs to feel special once in a while, especially around the holidays, and especially kids. JUST DO IT!!! We even have SEVERAL members of our very own lxforums that were on the receiving end of this program when they were growing up - so don't think the toys disappear into some far-off downtrodden area you'll never see or care about. ....that enough guilt for ya? ;-)

    Please comment on the date, time, location, etc.!!!! I don't care if I show up and eat by myself, this is going to happen.

    And for anybody who definitely cannot attend, I invite you to visit this link that Scarbs dug up... donate a toy from the comfort of your desk chair:

    ================================================== ==========

    Two years ago LXF had a get-together at the Foundry in Aurora whereupon we collected a maggie and a 300 worth of toys (thanks Eric and Amy!!!) Last year I didn't attend one... I don't recall there having been one, but I may have just had to miss it. I thought it was a great idea though... we even learned that one of our members that attended and donated was actually a benefactor of the program himself when he was a kid... brings a whole new reality and meaning to the whole thing.

    So... I haven't heard mention of one for this year yet, and I want to get a feel for interest. Especially given the fact that lots of LXForums members' donations never made it to TFT last year, I really want to make something happen this year. We can do something similar to the last one (lunch and BS'ing), or something totally different. Suggestions welcome!!! The only must-have is toys... Lots and lots of toys. Looking at like the second weekend of December-ish? Obviously can't go too late... We can work out the details of who takes them back to what drop site later. I just wanted to start a thread to generate some interest before it's too late to get anyone to show up!!!

    Of course, if someone has something in the works, please just post it up here and the show is yours! I'm not necessarily wanting to take charge (though I will, that's fine) I just want to get the ball rollin'.
