Ok, I know I'm not some world class car-driver but it felt like Richard Hammond was just a big sissy driving the Challenger on Top Gear. Granted, I've had my SRT Charger for three and a half years and I have a whole mess of LX experts for friends, so maybe I'm being harsh, but the whining about the handling and barely being able to get it up to 150 on the salt flats? C'mon!!!! :chair: Oh and him swooning over the sound of the engine in the desert, yeah, dude, you should hear it with Zoomers!! Have you seen the episode and if so, opinions? Is the Challenger that different, or have I forgotten how much better my hotchkiss swaybars have made the handling on my Charger ??
The sways probably have a lot to do with it. That, and the fact that his buddy's were driving the new CTS-V and ZR1. Our cars are pigs after all!!
http://www.topgear.com/us/videos/more/salt-flat-racing Bah, big girls need love too! And considering whenever I go out to Willow Springs, the guys in the vipers tiptoe thru the turns but I'm cruising thru 'em, has to got to say something. Just amazed at the difference some swaybars made.
In road racing it's got more to do with the driver than the car. Those guys with the Vipers probably have all sorts of bad habits. You probably learned the right way and can take the corners smoother and faster as a result.
I guess my thing with the episode and all is realizing how Chrysler could've supported the aftermarket mods, because in my examplel, $2500 in aftermarket goodies made a world of difference over the stock version. If they were reviewing my car or your car, Rick, it'd be night and day different from driving whatever car they get to review. Probably why the LXes and Challengers get so under-rated by all the magazines. Sucks. Correction: I meant by aftermarket mods, just not dumbing the cars down so damn much. The fact that you have to spend a grand or two just to get into more of the car's true potential. And there's still so much we don't have access too. Freakin' Daimler neuters what Mopar is and then leaves Chrysler high and dry and now we're going to bumped in favor of little bitty Fiats...agh. I'm deep in car-angst.
DING DING DING we have a winner its just a TAD unfair to compare a challenger to a ZR1 dont ya think? hahahahaha they really werent "comparing" them but really...they were... so in essence top gear gives you this news story "Dodge Challenger SRT8 cant keep up with ZR1 Corvette" Holy crap stop the presses... I did enjoy that at the end of the show they did admit to loving all the cars
