Supposedly 2011 is the last year that the beloved Viper will be produced. Cerberus. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/08/has-cerberus-killed-the-viper/
Oh, well bye-bye! I'll still have my 06 300 SRT8, but hopefully with a fully built 392 or 426 and blower. You don't live forever baby......................................... At least I'll live long enough to drive it, but when the wife finds the CC bill, I'm pretty much "DEAD"! :mad2::argue::boxed:
I..........hate...........them............so..............much..............right............now..........
would kinda suck, being it's their flagship...maybe they'll come out with something more badass (maybe)
That does blow. You know, many of the premiere auto mags like Motor Trend, Car & Driver, Road & Track liked the Viper, but no matter how much better it got...it always played second fiddle to the Z06...and perhaps with good reasons...but definitely not the ones they cited most. It was loud, it was crampy, the exhaust heated up your leg...it was crude, unsophisticated, not for daily driving blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Cry me a fricken river. In my book, the downright devilish look of say a black viper coming down the street and pulling up to the valet at the Casino or a fine restaurant draws more Beatlemania-like googly eyes than your more generic looking Z06. (I must state, I LOVE the Z06...love) I would just rather have a Viper. Not to mention, the 08 Viper in a recent Motor Trend (I think) beat the Z06 on the road course AND the quarter mile, but still lost overall of the Z06. I for one, will miss it. It may very well be the last V10 we ever see from Mopar. The V8's may be next.
wow, i am very interested to see what the life span is for our platform as well as the new chally platform.......
there was an article in my news paper about it this past weekend... and they said all that...and the guy was like "and this is why i am always impressed and enjoy driving vipers"... thats the POINT of the viper...that its not supposta be a coddle your azz kinda car...its a if you dont know how to drive it...then dont kind of car... thats why it doesnt come w/ ESP, it rides rough, its loud...and thats why I LOVE the freaking viper... i better start playin the lotto so i can buy my viper while they still make them!
They are preparing for the sale to Ford. They will kill all of Doge and Chrysler, except the minivan. They will leave Jeep in tact, but reduce the model offerings.
I heard/read somewhere that Dodge is going to start heading in a more universal engine... one that'll fit in all their cars. Ergo: no future for the V8. True. But 1960/70 Muscle cars were made mostly of metal (exterior and interior). They have staying power in that they were the FIRST vehicles of that genre and weren't made of cheap plastic. I do not foresee our cars being compared to the 1st generation in terms of value. Ever.
I guess this story is indicative of where Dodge and possibly other manuf. are heading... back to the 'fuel economy' approach of the 70's and 80's. Don't fret folks, by 2030, a new generation of big power cars will be out... complete with wheel chair lifts for us! I'm not an economics person, but its always been a fact that there's a sizeable minority of people who want and will pay for horsepower, regardless of gas prices (another reason why 1st Gen. muscle is so valuable now)... and American car makers removed themselves from this market niche once before and they'll likely do it again... only to realize 20 years later that there's 'magically' a demand out there for powerful, fast cars. I don't believe they lose money on the SRT lineup... but, they'll eventually cancel the program... then we'll have to spend $90,000 for a European car to get 400+ HP. RETARDS!!! And 'we' collectively wonder why SO many Americans love Euro cars?!?! :usflag: Heck, Dodge simply changed the appearance of the Charger, 300, etc. to produce the Chally. They obviously aren't investing a heck of alot on further powerful engine development... the Chally is the sign of the future. The 6.1 is as far as Dodge will go at least for the next couple of decades.
Ford nor GM is in any position to take on any more financial hurt than they presently have. If the claim was due to the new CAFE standards I'd call BS, since there are so few vipers sold per year they really don't affect fleet mpg numbers all that much. However, as it seems it's a financial proposition, I've got my fingers crossed. The '11 GT500 is going to be on par power to weight wise with the '08-'11 Viper, and 750rwhp/tq SAE is only a KB 2.8H swap away on straight 93 octane. Gonna be a tough choice, especially considering the price difference.
