So I get a call from my wife at work on Friday during lunch and she's stranded in a suburban mall parking lot as our '05 Pilot with about 35,000 kilos on it won't start. Battery is flat dead, barely able to power the windows up. I later boost it and we get it home and the thing has subsequently been starting fine, with lots of battery strength since. With certainty that no interior lights or headlights were left on (the Pilot automatically shuts them off after a few seconds - great feature with kids), W in TF could have caused a one-time, seemingly instantaneous battery drain in the 15 mintues she was out of it? I was thinking that it might have been a short somewhere and that somehow the contact that caused it is no longer doing it but have no idea how to confirm.:dumb: Drivers side auto-down has since stopped working too. All this to say, it's now my responsibility to ensure it never happens again or she'll insist on a new Escalade.
Yes sir. lol It happens to our sleds as well. haha Voice of experience brudda. You may want to check on the automatic lights off thing... The relay may be bad.?.
The auto-down probably forgot it's calibration because the battery was dead (or disconnected). If you completely drain a fully charged battery in 15 minutes it's probably going to get HOT. Like hot enough that she should have smelled something. Did you check/clean the terminals? Get one of those handy dandy battery terminal and connector cleaners at the auto parts store. The kind that have either a wire brush and or scraper (or just use a small wire brush). Clean the surface of the terminals and cable connectors/clamps/screw. If you got the side post kind where the cable bolts to the battery check to see if one is slightly loose first. Then take it off and make sure it's clean. It doesn't have to be really dirty to lose good contact. They can have a very thin layer of corrosion on them that isn't really noticeable. If you had dirty/loose contact then putting booster clamps on it could have wiggled it enough to make enough contact again. If so, it will happen again sometime in the near future. Other things like a bad cell or badly sulfated should be persistent and it wouldn't have recovered for very long following a boost. De-sulfating your battery can extend life quite a bit sometimes. Dave, Thanks a lot! You and Ronald should know that you're personally responsible for Kathleen now finally understanding how incredible SRTC membership is and why it's always been so important to me since joining! A wealth of information and every member considers the others true friends. Now, someone go and fiddle with Curtis's wife terminals (so to speak) and we can cook up a similar story that'll impress her as equally! lol. Thanks again.
I've seen your wife, Curtis, (thanks on behalf of all C members) and believe me, while she may be crafty, we'd all agree that she looks nuthin like McGiver, lol.
Agreed...all members usually bring great insight but Dave and Kevin seem to be able to really bring clarity to things in the greatest detail. Thanks all.
