I was born and raised there.....but I don't know a whole lot about the traffic laws. I left home after only about a year of driving.

What did you get popped for??

Is it normal for them to ask me to step out of my car and stand at their car while they run my info? He clocked me doing 80 in a 75 so he said it wasnt a big deal but that my tint was a little dark for Utah.

did he give you a ticket for the tint?

and if so did he use a device to measure the tint level or did he just eyeball it.

and im with steve i dont think they can give you a ticket for tint being out of state.

now the 5mph over he can give you a ticket for. he may just not like Solar yellow skittles. LOL

Oh as for the stepping out of the car yes that is normal. a few states do that. plus you see it all the time on Most Shocking videos where the cop and driver are standing on the side of the road and some person loses control and plows into the cop car or the drivers car and the person starts screaming hasteracly because they were glad they werent in there car.

Yeah...in utah they do ask you to step out. When I got pulled over my very first time when I was 17, I freaked out because the cop asked me to get into his car!!

Turns out he just wanted to be inside with the heater. It was freezing out.

I didnt get a ticket at all just thought it was weird that he wanted me to stand on the passenger side of his car and talk to me while running my info.

I think the reasoning behind that is:
    1) you're not going to make a run for it
    2) they can keep an eye on you instead of you deciding to get your gun out from the glove box or from under the seat when you find out they're definitely going to run your info.
    3) Until they run your info they have no idea of who they are dealing with.

Remember, State Troopers, Sheriff's Deputies, and Cops are all just people doing what they think is right after their training...or interpretion of training. Most have a good grip and do a good job.

Hard to say what went on when you got stopped.

In the past I have asked people to stand here or there but mostly based on high traffic areas or my gut feeling, which was very rare.

Right and I understand that but for really pulling me over for no reason then talking to me about my personal life just seemed weird thats all.

LOL I was asked for my lincence and stood next to a state cops car and had my info ran at a DWI awarness set.

i passed all there test with 0.35 night tinted goggles on.

the Quarter drop and pickup, the stright line walk, and navigated a set coned course and stopped at all the stop signs and cross walks with a State cop righting shotgun with a video camera in the go-kart. hahahahahhaha.
