I can still remember smelling the smoke from where I live, getting the call (a number of times) from relatives working in the city and at 1 WTC. I had 5 close family members who were in or within 1 block of 1 WTC when the planes hit. 4 of them got out. I can/will never forget nor can I ever forgive. I had just gotten to work at the Morotcycle Dealership I was working at. Our sales manager told us to turn on the TV. We saw the first tower smoking and we were glued to the TV. I saw the 2nd plane hit. My best man in my wedding said that it was a replay of the hit...... then we realized it was another hit. I immediately said that this was a terrorist attack. All 7 salesmen all looked at each other in bewilderment. We were just at a total loss of words. Total feeling of helplessness. We felt sick to our stomachs. I remember Jay(my best man) yelling NO NO NO as the first tower fell. All we could think of were the people still inside. When the Pentagon got hit, we knew that this was serious. Then Flight 93 word came on. It was just a crazy crazy day and a feeling that I WILL NEVER forget. My 6 year old asked me last year about 9/11. He asked me if I knew anyone that had died. I told him no but it was one of the worst days of my life. I will make sure that my kids will always understand about 9/11. Thankfully, my dad bought tons of newspapers and 9/11 "memorabilia" that we have in a big storage bin so they will be able to see pieces of history. I remember that night, my wife and I going out to eat at Bennigans. It was a stange mood there. It was packed, but it was almost silent. Everyone's eye's glued to the TV's all around the resturant. I remember watching the TV that night crying, balling, sobbing my eyes out at all the people holding their loved one's pictures wanting to know if anyone had any information. It was like you were feeling their pain with them. Person after person, tears pouring down their faces wanting information about their loved ones. It wasn't America that night. It was like we were a war torn country trying to find a purpose again. It was a feeling that I never want to feel again. It's a feeling that I hope as a country we NEVER have to relive. It's a feeling that I hope we will all remember though in the fact that we must never let this happen again. It was this feeling though that brought this country together in a time that the country was so far apart from each other. We became united that day....... and sometimes I wish we still had that feeling. I think this country has lost that feeling and I find it sad. I don't want another 9/11 for us to feel that again.
To all that lost their lives that day may your memory live on forever and to the men and women who came to the aid of their fellow Americans you are all heros and angels. To those still fighting the fight to protect our great Country from horrible acts of terrorism and cowardly acts God Bless each and every one of you.
