The purpose of this thread is obviously to improve my 60’ times and ET’s, but it is also to consider if the mods some of us are making can be counterproductive to one another. I also recognize that a great deal of this has to do with the driver and practice, but I have made numerous runs on this set up. I hope that some of our experienced members will chime in here.

Anyway… I can’t seem to break the 1.8x 60’ barrier no matter what I try and often find myself stuck around 2.0x. This last Friday night at Famoso, California TnT (DA 2530) I made four passes. The 60’ were: 2.02, 2.00, 1.83 and 2.02. The lowest 60’ seemed to come because the car suddenly grabbed at about 30’ down the pad.

I am making 532 rwhp on my Vortech supercharged SRT8 which should be enough to get this heavy beast moving. I have a 3.06 Getrag set up, M & H drag radials (275/45R18), 3400 stall Edge torque converter, and BB valve body. However, I also have the Eibach Pro-Street S coilover setup, which has a pretty stiff ride and is non-adjustable.

I have done longer burn outs, shorter ones, but still can’t seem to get it to completely hook. I have varied my starting rpm’s from 1000, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2000, and 2200 which is where it starts to creep against the stall of the torque converter. I have also varied the tire pressure from 18 to 26. None of this seems to make a great difference.

I first wonder about the stiffness of the rear suspension. Is it not allowing the car to rock back and transfer enough weight during the take off? Am I overpowering the drag radials and need to change to a different tire set up? Is there anything else anyone can see that I should try (including adding something or changing the mods I have listed)?

    Thanks in advance…

More than likely the prep at the track is the culprit? Usually the track employee's will NOT waste the VHT to get the track prepped on a TnT night. The consistent 2.xx's proves this.

The 1.8x show's that you are getting the burnout and launch down. Just need more practice???

How many passes do you have on the DR's? This will also have an impact if the tires are getting old and used. The Nitto 555's usually last between 10 - 15 passes before they are ineffective at the track. I am not sure about the M&H's?

You have a 3400 stall and you say you are reaching the limit at 2200 rpm? This doesn't add up. You should be able to stall up to or around 3400... Something may be wrong with the TC?

    :stupid:

Theres gotta be something goin on....even on street tires my vortech supercharged charger was 2.11 60' and I had ZERO traction....

are you just spinning...are you getting any grip at all?

I know with the big boys at the track....they do some pretty monster burnouts...and they launch around 3k...or as I have been told "As high as she will let you"

At the line it wants to push past the brakes at about 2200 rpm. Should I look into a different converter?

Thanks for your response...the input is greatly appreciated.

I have done some large burnouts where I am trying to see the tree through smoke and it still seems to react the same. I am not able to get the rpm's up as high as I thought I would. Maybe time to look at a converter change?

No, you should push the converter until you get slight rear wheel spin, that would be your stall RPM...if you're pushing past the brakes, press harder on the brakes, and get your stall to around 3000...hold there and when third yellow hits, simultaneously lift off brake, and roll into the throttle until you reach WOT. Don't just slam it to the floor (unless you have great track prep). Should yield you some consistent 1.6-1.7's.

Or purchase a Line Lock system. I believe BMC offers them?

Thanks Dookie... I think that what is happening now is that I am starting at a lower rpm and then while rolling into the throttle the converter flashes and that causes the loss of traction.

I have a line lock installed, but have only used it for the burn out. Should I be using it for the launch also?
