Ok this may be dumb, but I have been trying to do some research od the diffrence betwen the R/T and SRT chargers. I know the big diffrence is the 5.7 vs 6.1. now I am looking to mod the car, and if I got a R/T and put a 6.1 in it what else would I need if anything else. I am a noob to the LX platform, but think the Charger is super sexy. I love the SRT-4 I have but want something a little diffrent.

its cheaper to buy an srt then to put a 6.1 in an r/t. ask cam about that. also, srt has MUCH bigger/better brakes and a stiffer suspension, better flowing exhaust plus other things that i dont even know about.

are you asking what it would take to get the same performance...or turn it into an SRT?

SRT's have the interior, Suspension upgrades, appearance upgrades, breaks, wheels...things like that

yeah unless your going to be doing serious mods to either one...your better off just starting out w/ the SRT

well I am thinking of stroking a 6.1 to 426 and do some other engine work, and other up grades to the car. I am not looking for luxery interior, eventhough I do like the way the STR is layed out. I am just looking to save a little cash if possible. I know sometimes it is better to lay it out up front but just looking to get the best for the buck. also I have a freind with a wrecking yard who will give me a 6.1 and trans dirt cheap.

I think your best bet is to find a used 06 SRT or something to buy...

I dont know how much you'd save buying an RT and going through all the trouble of moding it up....

Maybe if you found a dirt cheap RT it might be worth going for...if your gonna tear out everything find one with a ton of miles on it or something....

unless he gives you the engine and does the swap for free as well as the brakes then your just going to be paying more. the brakes alone are like 4k. then theres still the suspension. pcm has gotta be different too. ive seen srt maggies going for as much as r/t's.

Someone, thinking Ozzie/Cam, told me that there are actually $20-30k in performance improvements on the SRT as opposed to the RT. It's NOT just the same car with a different engine. If you'd like more in-depth info, go over to LXforums.com and ask around. There's a wealth of information there.

Also, as for the "luxury" aspect, the Chargers are pretty bare bones in comparison with the 300s. I think there are at least a dozen different standard luxury features on the 300s that you don't find on the Chargers. The Charger SRTs were meant to be the "race car" of the LXes, so you get stiffer suspension and significantly less fluff.

Since they've been around three years now, odds are good you can find one with some miles on it for much cheaper than the original MSRP.

well thanks for all the info, it is definatly something to help with my decsion. I am going to check out the LX forums as well, but I am probably going to look at the SRT,not just for the performance but it is just damn sexy.

Best of luck in your search, and originally I wasn't thrilled with the new Chargers until I got an eyeful of the SRT. Its been love ever since.
