Looks like MityVac is the winner: http://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp (because it's in stock at the O'Reilly Parts where my brother-in-law is the manager) That'll do for my bandaid fix. Once I've used up the 12 quarts of Valvoline ATF +4, I'll order 12 quarts of the Amsoil. Bandaids yes, but at least it's a start. Does anyone else feel like we've just opened a whole new can of worms?
Yes the Amsoil ATF is compatable with Chyrsler transmissions you can also use it in your power steering and it will make a difference there as well.
Let me know I can get it at Dealer price for you. If you want to go one step further add a PML pan with the Amsoil for even more of a cooling running tranny
Thanks for the offer, but I get stuff at cost through O'Reilly. Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "PML" pan? Is that a company? Finned pan? Deeper pan? I'm thinking of adding an actual tranny cooler as well.
you guys are killing me!!!! why not just drop the pan and change the filter while your there. The gasket is resuable and the filter is about 15 to 20. its a whole 10 or 12 bolts
Because then I have no way of telling EXACTLY how much fluid I lost, which means I have to go to the dealer to have the transmission level measured and topped off/drained, which means I have to go without my car for a day, and give the dealer $100. All because of our wonderful "fluid level depends on transmission temp" system, along with no dipstick unless you purchase one for $60, and then you need a StarScan to measure transmission temp, yadda yadda yadda. So for now (yes, I've already acknowledged this is a mere bandaid approach) I'd prefer to just extract and replace 4 quarts at a time through the fill tube.
DashHawk will give you trans temp. Now all you need is the $80 dip stick. So for a mere ~$350 you can measure your trans fluid level.:magic:
If we are going to cook our stock tranny fluid with the ability to hit the 12's and it may be even happening during high speed freeway driving, and definately on road courses. Maybe we should be trying new fluids for better results, definately looks like we need a tranny cooler adder. JMatt....did you monitor your tranny temp during your runs when you noticed the problem?
Another overpriced component for our cars, you would think we owned Ferraris. I bought my SRT8 because I could not afford a Ferrari or an Aston Martin.....and I wanted a HEMI. I don't really neeed a Billet pan...a little overkilll here due to location. Seems like we should get PML to make one for us at around $300? http://www.yourcovers.com/tp_10304.shtml What type of tranny do we have anyway. I hear "Nagi" but how about a model #? Does "Nagi" stand for something? Is it the same tranny used in some model of Mercedes-Benz?
Seems like to make a billet pan is a waste of a lot of aluminum, why not just cast or form? Thanks for the NAG1 info. Nice comfortble feeling to know it is First design. So our tranny is known as a NAG1 only or 722.xxx? Any idea about the .xxx for ours?
