Had another dentist appointment this afternoon. Figured, ah, WTF, I'll run home, grab the Charger and take it to my appointment... Lord knows I love driving that car! 805 North, just past Mira Mesa Road... tunes blaring... crusing +/- the speed limit... in blissful ignorance of the oncoming doom... THUNK! W - T - F ?!?! Was that?!?! Long story short: something friggin' flew up and nailed the passenger rear door of my precious! Left a tiny hole in the paint and two slight scratches... oh... and a second hole in the paint (down to metal) about the size of a pencil tip eraser!!! I got home, cleaned it off, and put some touch up paint on it. Looks better, but still like sht. I'm depressed. Car is a year old, only 9000 miles on it, only driven in dry weather (I know, I'm in San Diego) and I have: 1. A GOUGE on my rear wing/spoiler from a flying rock. 2. A 2.5 inch scratch on the hood near the driver side wiper (no idea from what) 3. Two 3/4 inch scratches on the pass. side front, just above the headlight (from flying debri, on the I5 heading to GSM... about 2 weeks after purchase) 4. A long, slight scratch on the pass. side, running midway from the front door all the way back to the pass. rear wheel well, where something dug in deeper and scratched the paint down to metal.
damn jason, that sux bro!!! i know the feeling though, i took my precious out on the freeway for the first time after purchase and got hit with a huge chunk of rubber off a garbage truck that left a big gouge in the front fascia just in front of the hood. got home after turkey day and my dog got stuck in the garage for three days and decided to see what was in my car......needless to say i have a "few" scratches in the clear on all four doors!!! arrrggghhhh!!!!!!
Turn it into the Insurance... Enough damage now can be claimed as one time... Sorry Jason for the injuries.
Jason, the 805 is a bombing range for cars. I have to take it 4 days a week from Mission Valley down to Chula Vista. In 14 months, I've had my grille smashed in by a kicked up sheet of plywood, hit parts of shredded tires twice (cracked the fascia paint). Had the fascia re-painted and now have so many chips it needs to be done again. Rock pits (down to bare metal with a raised edge) in the drivers mirror, roof line, and drivers fender. Plus a 2" round crack on my lower driver's windshield from a rock at 80 mph, sounded like a 22 went off in the car it was so loud. I feel for you.
Oh, I forgot one! rick was showing off, doing burnouts in front of my car and kicked-up a rock... sure enough! DING! Pin-sized hole in the paint, drivers door, just above the side view mirror! Yeah, keep laughing you basterd!
You think?!?! Won't they rape me over this, when it comes time to renew the ins?!?! I can't see them just touching some of these things up... we're talking painting the rear pass. door totally... the hood, front facia above headlight, and the rear wing/spoiler. Its gotta cost big bucks.
I don't think so. Isn't it the collision where you're at fault that increases your rates? I don't think comprehensive claims should increase your rates unless you're making a ton, and then they'll likely just drop you.
Ha! That's what Moe called the cement lane dividers?!?! Poor guy, blind as a bat. Anyway, maybe I will call and pose a few Q's to the Ins. people. Thanks for the idea... now I'll know who to blame when the wife freaks out over the ins increase! You guys rock! While I'm at it, should I get the hood painted a sort of flat black?!?! Old school baby!
I believe you can place a claim with CalTrans for damage of this nature (failure to properly maintain). http://www.dot.ca.gov/damageclaims.htm Worth a try.
What are you thinking man! You are now going beyond spending money you don't have, you are in the range of "MONEY YOU WILL NEVER HAVE!"
Nope. Generally it's if you make a claim and they pay money. Then it's how much and whatever policy they have on how long you've had them, history, etc. Be very explicit with your insurance agent as to how filing a claim (estimate the amount) might effect your standing.
I feel your pain on the highway thing. bummer. The 2.5 inch scratch on the hood... Carefully review the Mother Mopar Performance video. Pay very close attention when the blower intake explodes...
