Well - our event in Indy scheduled for today got frozen out. I knew people were working hard this weekend to get in the 10's, so I went searching for an open track. All of the Cincinatti traks are closed from flooding. So the closest one turned out to be Beech Bend in Bowling Green Kentucky.

Got to the track, and it was colder than cold. Don't know the DA yet, but I'm sure it was negative - very negative.

Spent an hour getting ready, changing tires, installing skinnies, heating the bottle, cooling the engine, changing tire pressures, recalculating on/off points for all three stages of nitrous, changing fuel tables through the Predator, etc.

Lined up, did a big burnout, and set a new LX record:

I ran again later, and actually was on pace to shatter that time as well. My 2nd pass was the following:

60' - 1.637 seconds (.073 ahead of the record already)
330' - 4.451 seconds( .082 ahead of the record 1/4th the way down the track)
1/8th mile - 6.927 seconds (still .054 ahead of record pace)

    But...the tranny was failing.

100' 9.119 (slower than record pace)
    1/4 mile - 11.014 @ 121.01

The tranny was cooked. I didn't like the way it smelled at the end of the run. I didn't like the way it sounded.

So I let it all cool off and packed up and called it a day.

The track didn't seem to care how fast I ran. When I pulled up to pick up the 10.89, I opened the slip, looked at the guy, and he just smiled and never said a word. When I pulled up for the burnout, the track worker was on the headset to the tower. I could see him pointing at me and I thought "uh oh - here it comes." Then they motioned me into the water boxes, and off I went.

Picked up the 11.01 slip. Again - not a word. I think I could have run all day without trouble if it weren't for the tranny.

Incidentally, on the 240 mile drive home the car (including tranny) worked flawlessly.

Thanks all. And thanks for the phone call Ron.

I must admit. I was kind of in shock when I saw the timeslip. It was very surreal. The guy handed me the slip folded. I unfolded it, saw the 10, and looked at him expecting to get scolded. He just smiled, and I drove on.

There's video to be posted later. The observers reported that I picked a front wheel off the ground. I'm guessing when we see the video, that it was just an illusion from front end lift, and the tire never actually left the ground.

Also - at about the 1/8th mark I actually lifted off the throttle because I thought it wasn't shifting. I looked down and realized I had already hit 105 mph and the shift was already over. So I hammered the throttle back down and kept going. Probably cost myself .02 - .03 seconds.

    Look at this timeslip:

Compare the two. This one is much quicker off the line, through 330' and even up to the 1/8th mile. That was until my transmission took a dump.

That last run looks like it may have been quicker than your best one today.

It was .08 quicker after the first 330 foot. I think it woulda/coulda/shoulda been about .15 quicker over all. That woulda/coulda/shoulda been a 10.75 run.

The tranny won't do it guys. Starting Monday I start learning tricks to make trannies stronger. Different fluid? Tranny cooler? The company with the new valve body? I'll explore it all.

I'm personally not going to try to break that record myself until I've done some tranny work.

You really need my coilovers! :harhar:

426Jack is now the 2nd quickest NA car in the country. He had a 1.6 second 60' time today in poor conditions when other cars were spinning like crazy. I had a 1.6 second 60' time, and my car comes off the line at stock HP levels.

On the same track, Jeremy had 1.9 second 60' times today.

You guessed it - Jack and I are both running the coilovers. Jeremy - not yet. But he will be soon. LOL.

LOL - when Jeremy, who still holds the record for best 60' time, gets beat by TWO different cars by .30 seconds in the first 60', and those two cars both have the coilovers.......

    You do the math!!!! :dancing:

I'm feeling pretty validated in all the time a spent on that durned coilover project!
