Rick, those pics are with it lowered max? You can't adjust it anymore?? Looks a little high but you don't have stock size tires either. I'd make sure it's maxed out then talk to KW. Well I'm gonna input my 2 cents in a very unscientific manner. I've got the Mopar kit (which is or is not identical to the KW v1s, it's debatable) and mine currently is dropped 1 and 1/2 inches front and 1 inch rear and can still go more. Stock ride height (full tank, empty car on level ground) on stock tires (245 & 255 F1s) was 30 inches ground to fender lip at all 4 corners. Right now it's sitting at 28 1/2 front, 29 rear and I still have some adjustment left. I'm not going lower but I could. Funny thing is the instructions say it'll max out at a 1 1/4 inch drop. Wroooooooooong! We talked about the Mopar kit on the OC last fall a little, don't know if you remember, but I wasn't and am still not happy with the ride quality being so harsh. You remember the thread? You said maybe the Mopar kit, even though it's made by KW, uses different rate springs or something like that, could that be the case with the V1 vs. V2 kits?? Just a thought. I'll try to get some pix up but my cam sux. Maybe I can talk Quick into coming by and taking some with his great cam, he only lives like 1/4 mile from me!!
Scott, I do remember the thread. Are you still unhappy or has it settled a bit? I need to call SDCarguy or MOL and ask them a question about the adjustment. They saw onle one ring/thread remaining for adjustment. I wonder how many rings there are total, and if they are ALL visible though the boot???
I didn't install mine but talked to my mechanic this morning to see if he remembered so I could post for ya (install was last fall). He said from what he remembered there still was adjustment left to go lower and that you should be able to see the threads without too much trouble, just takes some looking around. Mine's too low to get under (at least for me, lol!) but for fronts he said to crank the wheel one direction for an easy look. For rears he said to just get down under the rear bumper and you should be able to see the perches. No, I'm still not happy with the ride quality, nothing's changed. It's funny, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the ride height (in fact when Dave saw my car for the first time when we went to the TE at Laguna Seca a few weeks ago his first words were, "man that's low.") but not the ride. I still think the ride is just too harsh but it's really dialed in, I mean you feel EVERY little dip and pebble in the road it's so tight. After doing the TE I've come to the conclusion the Mopar kit is really a "race" only kit, meaning it really is designed for the track and not the street. I got to drive the Chargers twice and was lucky enough to drive one stock and one with the Mopar kit. I felt right at home in the "Mopar" one, it was faaaaaaaaast just like my maggie! It felt much better all around than the stock Charger, it really was amazing the difference (I could have gone much faster in it than they were letting us go that's for sure). On the track the Mopar coilovers/sways really shined so that's where I got my conclusion from. Oh, and the F1s really shinned too, everyone raved about how good they were.
Hey Rick, Milan's been pming me bout my Mopar kit, I think he's wanting to get a coilover kit soon. I told him my experience with it but I'm really starting to wonder if there are differences in the kits out there even though they're all made by KW and supposedly the same. Like your questions on the differences between the V1 vs. V2 kits. And KW makes the Eibach kit too right? I wonder what's dif bout that one too. Is there a way to find out the specs on all these kits and see what's actually dif?? Like spring rates or shock valving??
You KNOW I feel bad about what's going on... but think about it... with either of our collective 'luck', could there have been a better and more ironic reason for all of this?!?!
I already have them. They're still sitting in my trunk wondering if they'll be installed or not. Haven't decided. Wife's wondering if I've become a hoarder now since I have at least 5-6 mods in the garage, none of which have been installed. I told her, "Yes, why yes I have. What the problem is"?
Fixed. J/K!! Well Milan if you already have the kit then just go ahead and do it, that seems like a no brainer buddy. If you don't like it then just go back to stock. That's what I'd do. And do the sways too, Hotchkis.
Milan, while I appreciate the PM, with the addition of Hotchkis sways, your car will handle with a "Viper-like" quality. Ride harshness, IMO, if any, is negligible.
