Well - I didn't make all my goals....yet. But I did accomplish a couple. Four of us went drag racing in Cincinatti today. Including EricG, MikeCompTA57, myself, and one of PPP's 426 clients. Spent all day yesterday prepping, got to the track, and quickly learned everything I had screwed up. I had never checked the lugs on one of my front wheels, and it turns out the bozos at the tire store completely stripped the lugs on a front wheel and I couldn't get the wheel off. So instead of using my new lightweight skinny ront wheels, I had to use my big heavy 255 45R20 snow & ice tires!!!!! Yes - I was ticked!!! I had also left the little flashlight on on my jumpbox, and was concerned I wouldn't have enough battery power lest in the jumpbox if I needed to jumpstart my car. As it turns out, I never ran my battert down, and didn't need to jumpstart my car. Weather was perfect. Very cold. Got sunny late. Traction was weak because it was so cold, but the track did a decent job with the conditions. First run: 11.213 seconds at 125.29 mph. Both are new national records in any LX. So when I get my timeslip, I get told I have to go back through tech, because I need a rollcage to keep running. I tell him it's the fastest the car's ever gone, that I know the rules, and that I'll lift to slow down. He says "all right....." So I wait for the car to cool, and just watch everyone else run. Finally, I do a 1/8th mile run and lift so I don't break the rules. Second run (1/8th): 7.315 seconds at 100.91 MPH - in the 1/8th mile!! A couple guys have gone quicker in the 1/8th, but that's the fastest MPH in the 1/8th. So I wait around again forever, and get ready for one final run. 60': 1.736 seconds (personal record) 1/8th mile: 7.248 seconds @ 99.95 mph (e.t. personal record) 1/4 mile: 11.172 seconds @ 124.68 mph!! (New national record for any LX in the 1/4 mile!!) So I pull up to the timeslip booth, and two guys come out and say "I'm sorry, but I have to take away your tech card." I laughed, and said "I know. I'm ready to go home." They laughed back and said "Yup - I told him 'what do you bet he's done for the day anyway?'" So we all laughed - they were cool. I apologized for running too fast, but said "Hey - I built it over the winter, I had to see what it would do." They understood, and told me to come back next weekend and they'd let me have two "illegal" runs again. They were very cool about it, and loved the car. ...but then I gave them my tech card, and was officially kicked off the track for the day. I really wanted 10.999 or better. Maybe next week. These runs were done with full interior - nothing taken out. Car weighed 4,345 pounds on the digital scales at the end of the run with me in the car. Other than drag radials, car was in exactly the same trim as I will drive it to work in the morning.
OMFG!!!!!!!!! That's outstanding my friend! Soooooo close. You have to be the first to do it! Next week can't come soon enough eh?
Great launch, nice video. Congrats on the time. Those Front Runners and your race wheels would have shaved some weight and some of the .173 for sure. 10's for you next week.
AWESOME RUN DUDE!!!!:cheers::beer: Now if you go on a diet I bet you could get that sucka down to around 3000 pounds or so....:moon:leasantry::hug:
Thanks all! EricG set a personal best in a nearly stock SRT-8. I think he got about a 12.64. 426Jack (local guy with a PPP 426) broke into the 11's for the first time, scoring a 11.873. I had an appointment with a chassis builder about doing a rollcage earlier this week. It just chops the car up way too much. This is my daily driver. So - I'll de-tune it for most of my runs, then go all out for a run or two each day.
Haha. Wise choice. I wouldn't want to chop it up either. Wondering if they'll eventually ban you though lol.
Some tracks may. These guys told me straight up it'd be fine to come back and do the same thing next weekend. They were very cool about it. Other tracks don't care at all.
Nicely done JMATT,I assume that was with the triple stage you set up??Its good to know that the car is in one peice as well.Still running stock 1/2 shafts??
Drove home 120 miles! LOL. No - I upgraded to PPP/Driveshaftshop halfshafts over the winter. Yes - that was the triple stage set-up. All out 275HP top shot. A little tweaking - maybe remove the seats for some weight savings, and maybe a 10.999 is in my future.
