This is an idea I had last summer but it wasn't ideal since I had it too low to the ground. I redesigned how it mounted to the vehicle and gave it wheels and it is AWESOME now!!! A video of it working: This is only the prototype and I have ideas already how to improve this design but I will be using it to get to Spring Festival and will let yall know how it goes...price is being figured out right now and will be based on price for material and welding costs. Hope yall like it...this is one of the coolest thing I have ever made or modified.
Nice! My neighbor has a set-up like that and it works great. Good way to get the items to the track while keeping the interior clean.
Go Nathan Goooooooo Love it man. See you in a few days. Speaking of which, when are you leaving? Me and Maureen leave for SoCal Tuesday evening. Back on topic.
VERY slick, Nathan! I dig it! I know a bunch of the SRT-10 guys would like that too. A few of us have trailer hitches....but we're not allowed to tow. MANY of the guys just throw their drag radials into the bed and transport them that way. But some people have 1-3 nitrous bottles in there too. LOL Plus, *anything* that adds traction to the trucks is welcome. LOL SUGGESTION: Instead of using screw-type locking for the legs, maybe a spring-loaded pin, like the one in the picture attached. Just make sure the pin goes through BOTH sides of the tube! They're a bit more expensive than the screw setup you currently have, but you don't have to weld/drill/tap with the pins. Just drill a couple of holes. When the caster tubes are in their 'up' position, the holes could be used for bungee cord attachment, or a cable to lock the wheels onto the carrier (less stress when you dart into 7-11 for a soda...heh heh). Just suggestions. Feel free to tell me to screw off at any time.
I was going to put a pin thru the poles but I decided not to.... BECAUSE You never know when the ground will be level..this way you can individually adjust the height...I know my driveway where my car sits is not level coming out of my garage so this is a much better setup. I used it Friday and it was so cool to have at the track. And yes it will work for ANY VEHICLE that has a receiver mount, not just your LX (thought I might need to modify the height for different applications.)
Nathan- I thought of that too. It is nice having infinite adjustability on those. With the t-handle pin, you could have 4 or 5 holes at each end of the tube (spaced and clocked for optimal strength). That would compensate for height differences regarding ground level and load. A similar- but MUCH larger pin- could be used to adjust the height of the square tubing for the hitch connection. This way someone can use it on their Magnum AND on their SRT-10. Just tryin' to help out.
Pretty slick set up, only concern I would have is during a very long trip haveing a safety pin through each leg while in the up position I think would be a piece of mind. I think the turn screw could work it's self loose
I will have a saftey pin...didn't you listen to my video ad....geez I know I am working with no budget here but it wasn't that bad
I am a trained actor....I did a play or 2 in high school theater class And it only took me 2 takes to get it right....maybe 3.
Very cool indeed Nathan...now that's what I call innovative for SRT8 enthusiasts. Let us know how this pans out..
Hey...innovative is what I do, and remember you can use this for anything not just carrying tires and a cooler to the race track.
This came up somewhere else so I will post it here: I know you can buy the tray anywhere, that is not what I am showing you. I bought the tray originally but it did not work for what I needed going to SE Shindig...it in fact was poorly designed and though said it could carry the weight did not work properly. I REdesigned how the tray mounts, rewelded the stress point, raised the height, and added the legs and wheels. The REmodeled version is what I am showing you, yes I know you can go buy a tray anywhere (I figured out a way to make the tray also so I won't need to buy one anymore) but one with adjustable wheels I have never seen on the market.
Here a video of the tray as we were driving to California...this video was shot at about 80-85 MPH and as you can see there is no movement to concern... http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/j...t=MVI_1191.flv I have the Mopar hidden hitch installed on my car.
