picked up the motor today, i have it on an engine stand and will be messing with it a little bit. we took off all the stuff i wont be neading like; the intake mani, stock turbo, alternator, engine harness, stock clutch and flexplate. camgear cover, stg1 inj, 03 fuel rail and other little stuff. to do take off list is: -AC compressor (done) -Power steering pump and reservoir (done) -Disassemble the head (cams, gears, springs, etc) -Extra lines left on it. (done) -Paint the block and head. -Install new cams, cam gears and springs. pretty much just get it down to the block and head, then clean everything and paint it, then the VC, intake mani and other stuff will go to ma' man gucci for powder coating big thanks to goats and doyle for helping me out so much today! if anyone needs any of the parts that i took off or will be taking off shoot me a pm, i'll sell it for cheap! February 12 2008 update: ok day 2; we took off the last of the coolant lines, timing belt and cover, cam gears, power steering pump and reservoir, ac compressor, harmonic balancer, oil pan, pick up tube and other little stuff. the harmonic balancer was a pain, goats was using the pulley remover but it would not come off, so he used the impact gun, it finally came out but it is too damaged to use. oh and goats sand blasted the stat housing, the damn thing looks like new. feb 15 ok i went to the shop tonight and got some more done; -Valve cover (off and ready for powder coating) -thermostat housing (off and ready for powder coating) -head (off the motor and partly disassembled) -cams, gears, springs and retainers (arrived) cam bridges are off, cams are off, gears are off, lifters are off, cam sensor off. (wish i had the money for the porting, over size valva and anlge jobs but...:weep: motor looks good a little dirty and some surface rust but nothing a good sand blast and some anti rust paint wont cure. Cylinder walls and pistons look good but im no expert, any input is appreciated. And there are some of the extra goodies that are here already, of course me representing the florida srt Owners club!
for about $300 in parts and some labor lol. the guy i got it from had bought it a while ago as a spare motor to build on, then swap the build motor and take his stock motor out. but he never got around doing it, so i asked him if that was his plan why not trade with me, he didnt need a perfectly good motor if he was going to completely overhaul it. so we are trading motors, and on top of that i bought and installed a dcr tb, fuel pump and motor mounts for his car. i got lucky.
Damn thats awesome! I don't know if sandblasting is always a good idea cause then it will start to rust shit. I am idiot. where is the idler pulley in this pict? Mine is starting to go out.
the idler was taken off already plus alum doesnt rust and the steel parts that i do sandblast will be painted
cam gears arrived, but i havent made any progress, working 10-12 hours a day doesnt leave time for the cars, we'll see what we get done on sunday monday and tuesday.
