Those who have a Scangauge or a way to monitor knock. What, if any, knock counts do you see? Today... DAB 0 - partial throttle... none DAB 0 - 3rd gear WOT 3kr DAB 3 - partial throttle... .5kr-1.0kr DAB 3 - 3rd gear WOT through 4th... the highest seen through out the band was 5kr once Didn't check DAB 1 or 2. This is on 93 pump and only half a tank of gas. I took the Aeroforce Scangauge out of my car and hooked it up to my wife's car till we get one for her. That's how I monitored it. She was watching the gauge while I was doing the pulls. We did get a code P0325 yesterday which was "P0325 PCM Knock Sensor Circuit". Searched and searched and no one really had a true answer to the fix for this code. Checked the wiring from the knock sensor and it was fine. Didn't check the torque on the knock sensor. Resetted the PCM and haven't seen the code since. Car has 81k miles and its probably the original knock sensor. I still have to do a boost leak test on the car. Which more then likely will be this Saturday.
Your running toys so I would also like to see what your knock counts are at. So if you want to share them... sure why not. No problem with me.
I didn't check the rpm range since I don't look down at the cluster when going WOT, I keep my eyes on the road. But if I judge it right I say around then since I was shifting early around 6k. Because I would tell my wife to let me know when she see's knock. That's when I would glance over at the wideband and see AFR's in the high 10's like 10.9 sometimes I saw 11.1. If I think about it initally at WOT in DAB 0 there was no knock not until we reached higher in the RPM range.
im running 22 psi,no meth, pulling fuel between -8 to -15 on the dtec with 21k miles on pump afr around 10.9-11.1 1000-4000=0 4000-5000=1 5000-6500=2.5 the highest ive seen
Not bad at all! The tuning system on my wife's car is actually the SMT6 a piggyback that needs to be laptop tune. Would like to get it retune to see how it all works with the SMT6. My friend JSRT-4 with the silver SRT-4 S3 that was on that one video against the GTO and Orange Mustang, he told me "It runs so much timing thats why it runs so rich, you pull that fuel and you will see KR". That s3 is so picky. I'm just not used to seeing KR. Since on my SRT-4 (s1 w/ bolt-ons) I see none at all.
well the staged timing is lower than the S0 pcm not higher they just allow u to run higher boost with out getting knock and they do run very rich and sometimes u can get knock from being to rich and plugs play a role also
Thank you for the information! I've been reading and researching I saw that plugs may play a role as well as the gap. Also read about running too rich can also cause knock. I don't mind knock as long as its in a same range. That's all I want. That one time seeing 5 at one point of the power band was a bit high. Although some say 5-6 is the highest you want to see and you should be "fine".
Well the mopar ecu's are predictive. Meaning it looks at boost levels, IAT's etc. and pulls out some timing in the area it is most prone to detonate, i.e. 4800-5200 for the stocker probably a bit higher for the s3 since it is a bigger turbo and it is still in its efficiency range at the higher rpm's. Typically once it is past that it puts the timing right back in. From what I have read about and seen on my car is that 3-4 degrees in that range seems to be normal. Typically when I log the knock count I log the rpm's as well.
none is best and 5 is the highest when i was on the stock plugs it was at 9 ct and when i changed them to the 4306 it droped to what it is now
That's usually the range you see S2's die off on the dyno. Interesting information. So if that's really the case then I really shouldn't have such a drastic worry. Because from what I've been gathering, s3 owners have seen and do see knock. Also for the most part it was anywhere from .5-3 which the 5 that came about once during the pulls. I figured temp. could be playing a role, as the pcm reads off that and based the boost levels it sees and tries to adjust for it. It's actually a DCR modded s3 and has an AGP wga on PCM controlled boost w/almost every bolt-on.
