Just got an email and it looks like Escort came out with the 9500i with blue leds. Up to $80 on a trade in. $80, $50, or $30 depending on what the trade-in is. Just in case anyone was already thinking about getting one.

Well... I've always got mine directly from Escort but I think they are using resellers now as well. If you go Escort get the 9500i unless you really have to have cordless. That model used to be called Passport but now they're all called Passport... Only other comparable detector is the Valentine 1. I like the Escort better because of the GPS stuff, less falsing and selective blocking, and it looks better.

i know invisicord makes a cool wire set up to hard wire the detector in a very clean manner, but i have also seen slick little mounting brackets that allow you to mount the detector to the neck of the mirror. i just do not know where to find that mounting bracket....... anyone know????

thanks dave...... i actually have the invisicord link, but not heard of the other one you listed. although, it is not the same as the mount i saw in a charger that was posted over on the district site....... can't remember who posted it, but it was a slick set up that mounted the detector just above the mirror, off of the mirror post and used the invisicord to wire it. very clean look!!!

What? There is no way I could mount anything on top of my mirror... I don't know, I've never tried angling the stalk downward as far as it would go, but that would put your mirror down in the middle of the windshield if it went that far. This one will put it immediately underneath your mirror with the mirror all the way up to the headliner... heh, I have a camera. give me about 20 min.

Here you go. I suppose it might fit on top of the mirror but I wouldn't want my mirror that low.

Best Buy sells them both, your better off buying the 8500 X50 (red or blue LED) as all the 9500 is GPS endabled but still same detection as the 8500. Prices at Best Buy are good

True. The radar detection functionality is the same in both. I REALLY like the block feature incorporating the GPS. The automatic, speed relative sensitivity is nice (but I generally just have mine full on). and.... it's black instead of gray. Only regret is that they didn't have the blue leds for the 9500i when I bought it a year or more ago.

Yea Chris, I have the same set up as Quick with that mounting bracket and the invisicord, do it, it's a sweet and clean set up. Only difference I have with Quick (sorry Dave) is ... get the V1 instead. We differ on this and won't soon change each others minds but I love the arrows, plain and simple, he sees them as not that big a deal. I've had a radar detector os some sort since I first started driving 25+ years ago and all I know is as soon as your detector beeps you ask yourself "where?". That is answered by the V1, not by anyone else. You can "figure it out" as Dave will say on another detector by the number of beeps and strength of signal but I ain't got time to do all that. All you do is look at the V1 and you know exactly what's going on. I have an Passport in my wife's car and it's good, it just doesn't have the arrows and I miss them. And THAT'S the proof in the pudding. Both give more than enough warning time and cover all the different bands and both have all the bells and whistles, it's the arrows that are the difference. Question. If they're the same otherwise and cost the same, wouldn't you rather have the arrows just for the heck of it? Get the V1 (sorry Dave), you won't regret it.

I got the same e-mail. If I were to upgrade to the 9500, I would want more that $80 for my 8500 - IMO.

You're right, forgot about that and that's the one intersting thing about the Passport. :hmm: With the V1 in full logic mode I just don't have that big a problem with falses.
