A friend has a that has a Super Bee lend me a set of Nitto 555R (drag radials). My every day rear tires 275/40R20, the drag radials were 305/35R18; needless to say there was a big difference in tire size (diameter) the drag radials were at least 2" smaller than my normal tires. My times went from 13.05 to 12.95. Even though since I bought my Nitto INVO tires, I've had no traction problems at the track but still, I might buy a set of these tires just because of the size. Yup - welcome to the world of improved gear ratio. Just think if we could actually change the gears, and run realistically sized tires instead of the short tires.
The smaller the tire the better your times will get until... you shift into 4th before you get to the line. Shifting is going to take time and it drops you down in RPM and the power curve. So your best time will be when top out in 3rd just as you cross the line. The problem is that as you tune and mod and in different conditions you'll be faster and shift into 4th earlier, and then you need a larger tire. So to really tune your DR size you'll need a trailer with 3 or 4 sets to take with you:naww::grin:
That's only true for the slower guys. I'll be almost through 4th gear before the 1/4 mile. My last trap speed was 123.05 mph.
The Diablo Predator has an option that allows you to change tire size when toning the car. I was thinking of doing this, but because of time, I did not. Do you guys think this option could help getting better ETs?
The car's computer has some assumptions programmed into it with respect to the physical aspects of the drive train. Gear ratios of the transmission, gear ratio of the differential, overall tire diameter. If you physically change those the computer doesn't know. For example, a smaller or larger tire size will change how far the car moves forward for one rotation of the wheel. Same for changing your gear ratio in the rear axle. The computer doesn't know about it so the speedometer and odometer will be off. The predator allows you to change these programmed assumptions so that the speedometer and odometer will display the correct values again. That's about it. Side question: It seems now that we do have a top speed limiter (at least the predator has an option for changing it). Do you suppose that's based on RPM or speedometer value after the speed calculation? (heh, something for the Diablo forum :thumb2
That first video really shows how awesome the Corsa sounds. Me wantie...ssssoooooooo bad....... You're burning up the track Carlos, your Charger is lookin' good man! Eric
thanks Eric, the one problem I had on the first run was that I was trying to set the 0-60 timer, and before I knew it, the lights turn green so I just stepped on the gas, but the second time I was able to set the car at 2,000 RPM at the lights.
