OK cool

OK cool to you too :)

Anyhow, I only asked because it seemed that he had some inside info...........gee, ya think. :tip:

Just to clear up this statement up. Stu was not aware until I informed him. And he instantly addressed the issue. Just like PPP's, there were only a few heads out there with the new retainers and everyone has been contacted and corrected parts are either on the way or will be shipped out ASAP as soon as he finishes them.

To me, you made it sound like he was already aware of the problem. Which was not the case. But could be me, I'm a tired boy right now.

My new setup is going to be such a monster that I'd rather wait and do it right the 1st time. I could have had a 426 in at the Rumble, but we would have had to change short blocks. I'm not sure we're going to be able to have everyhing done for Spring Fest. We'll have something, but hopefully the whole enchilada. Everyone is going to shit bricks, I mean everybody.

250 posts and still no results..... just some bickering.
I once heard a statement....
"If you look into the future you will find answers for which there are no questions."
(from the 1969 movie "Illustrated Man" made from Ray Bradbury's book of the same name)

As far as the valve issue....I believe legal action would result in payment for damages....even for race components, because it has been proven that the parts were screwed in mfg and the mfg has confessed. However you would probably have to go all the way to the heat treater. I work in the heat treat industry and have seen this happen. Quality control failures are frowned upon.

No, I mean the mains and rods.
Now that there has been metal in the engine. I would like to know if it was mine.
The filter doesn't stop everything.
Will the engine fail because of this,,,, no probably not. But If it was mine, I'd take a look.

We use this

The amount of metal is minimal, not to mention I have a magnetic drain plug in the pan.

Rockwell could made a handheld version of that machine if they used a flux capacitor.

I found out from Cam that there was contact between the edge of the retainer and the rocker so when Josh called I was already aware of the interfearance. I have previously noticed some variation in tip height on the valves so about a month ago I contacted Rev valves regarding the variation in tip height. They said that the variation was the fault of the retainer/lock mfg. That made sense because it's pretty easy to put a lock grove in the same place with a valve but with retainer/lock angles the error would more likley be at that point. With this in mind I started ordering retainers and locks from Crower after getting a sample and being happy with the quality, installed height. Have place an order for custom retainers that accept the hemi specific springs, have the hemi retainer OD and work with the single groove Rev valves.

Upon hearing about PPP's valve problems I was very concerned because I have been using Rev valves on our big valve applications since about june when I stopped using the manleys because of excessive delivery time. I spoke to PPP about the issue and they urged me to call REV so I gave them a call. They told me not to worry about it and that it was an isolated case with the PPP valves. I wasn't really convinced that this is not going to be an issue with the valves in my heads and that PPP was the sole vendor to get the bad batch but I haven't seen this problem on our heads yet. At this point like Josh said I would recommend that if you start to hear excessive valve train noise with our heads pull the valve covers and rockers and take a look.

In regards to the retainer/rocker clearance like I stated above, I was in the process of changing retainer manufacurers when I found out about the problem from the shootout. My initial retainer concerns were due to variations which I felt could lead to a contact problem at the tip of the rocker rather than back tward the body where it was. When I switched to the Rev valve back in June I checked this and it was not making contact but I checked now and they are. This leads me to believe that the tip height has changed slightly and I'm not sure when this happened. I have retainers that allow proper clearance going out to the heads in the field that have not been installed at this point. I have also contacted the people that do installs to aleart them of the potiental problem. On heads that are installed on the engine already in most cases replacement of retainers would be a difficult problem. The contact is slight enough that there is no danger of dropping a valve but I am concerned about the edge contact side loading the valve guide and causing increased valve guide wear. The simple fix for already installed heads is to machine the rocker for clearance since the contact is slight, on the order of 0.010"-0.020" of an inch that material can be removed from the underside of the rocker without significantly weakening the rocker. If anyone already has my big valve heads installed and needs these modified rockers contact me at [email protected] or phone 512-964-7724. If you would rather change the retainers out I can facilitate that also, so get ahold of me and I'll take care of it. Next for those of you who haven't heard, Last week, I seperated from my partner and Performance Research and development. I'm in the process of setting up my new business as Inertia Motorsports, Inc. I will be using the Inertia Motorsport name on the forums rightaway though. Prettymuch everything we offered with PR&D I will continue to offer as Inertia Motorsports. I just parted ways with Scott and the install shop that he was running.
