So, what would you all recommend for the first mods, on a 2006 Charger SRT-8?? I don't have a set amount of money to spend it just depends on the item. What would be your recommendations for exhaust?? I don't like super loud exhaust.. but something that sounds nice?? Any sound/video clips on it? (all the ones I've found sound like crap). Also, suggestions on cold air intakes??
Hi Cindy! Great, I see you're over here now stirring the pot, lol!! I'm just kidding of course! First, welcome!! You'll get much more responses here than on the OC, that forum really died down once the Connection here opened. Soon everyone will pipe in and give you their opinions, that seems to be something that's definitely not lacking around here, lol!! As for mine you already know ... Mopar CAI and Mopar Catback. Good luck and again welcome to the C!!
WELCOME TO THE "C"...MY BUDDY PUT ON A "SLP LOUDMOUTH 1" IN HIS R/T CHARGER IT'S PRETTY FREAKIN LOUD IT SOUNDS NICE ALSO...HERE IS THE LINK IF YOU WANNA CHECK IT OUT...
well honestly right now the best bang for your buck would be a $7 thermostat and a predator. that right there would be good for more horsepower then an exhaust or intake.
You will get alot of different opinons on exhaust and CAI, everyone likes something different! I personally have a Bassani Cat Back and AFe CAI and love the combo. As others suggested a tuner and thermostat are also good mods to do. Here is a clip of my Bassani. If you want something that sounds good when you stomp on it but is quiet in the Car I would suggest Corsa. Let me know if we can help, we carry pretty much anything you can dream of for your SRT8 at BMC Performance...Lisa will hook you up!
Welcome to Bizarro Land. I'd say look into packages or buying a couple mods at a time, as they complement one another. With that in mind: CAI, Cat back exhaust, 180 degree thermostat and Predator Tuner (then run the 91 or 93 Octane CAI performace tune). This made my car something an all together different animal. Before the Predator with the 91 Octane tune, my best 0-60 was 4.62... that was with the CAI, Exhaust and T-stat already in place. Post-Predator install with 91 Octane tune (with the above mods still in place), I pulled a 4.22 0-60... so if that's any indication... For this setup, just price around. But figure a ballpark amount of $1700. This is the best bang for the buck performance setup for daily driving. More mods would include the Hotchkis front and rear sway bars PAIRED with a coilover setup (KW's seem to be the favorite coilover). That'll run you AROUND $2400 installed... give or take. It'll make your car handle like a dream. Totally dialed-in. There's always nitrous, but I don't know enough about that.
Id say AFE, diablo and a thermostat. then grab an exhaust I know we have the diablo on sale for 375 with all the cables shipped to your door if you want a quiet exhaust go with one that has 4 mufflers that will keep it down pretty good
It may seem like a severely biased opinion, but a Predator is likely the single most cost effective mod, and it can be felt in the butt-o-meter immediately after installing it. It will also grow with you and allow you to take full advantage of any and all future mods. Thanks Mike
I went the Airhammer intake / Zoomers exhaust route. Here's a thread with soundclips: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showpo...6&postcount=65 Scroll to the bottom of the post to listen to the Zoomers on the 6.1. The Zoomers rated to 122 DB at full throttle, but much of that is bass rather than volume, you feel them as much as you hear them. In low gears and when the pipes are still cold, they can be kinda loud and grumbly. They purr/rumble nicely on the freeway at cruising speed and yes, they bark/howl when you get on the pedal. In terms of annoyance, I never have to yell over them and I can hear my music over them no problem. I've actually found that on roadtrips they put passengers right to sleep. Still, because of the cost and commitment, I suggest you check some out in person if possible and decide for yourself. I got these because they look good (I heart chrome!) and because they sound even better. I did notice a definite seat of the pants difference in torque/thrust, but as for true numbers that's a religous debate on most forums, so I'm not going there. :bigwink:
holy crap..... momo actually posted something making him sound like he knows what he is talking about...... cindy - as others have stated so eloquantly, the cai, exhaust, t-stat, and pred are good starter mods and what i would call the basics. for each one i have a follows and love them: cai - mopar with custom flames!!! exhaust - magnaflow mufflers with custom bent 3" tubing connected to stock tips!!! sounds awesome and much cheaper than doing a cat-back t-stat - i run the napa 191, but any 180 degree t-stat will work!! diablo predator - must have imo if you own an srt!!!!!
cindy - take this mans advice!!! best 400 bucks you can spend on your car!!!!! best thing is you will never "out grow" it!!!
youve all been great help... but my next question is.. what is the difference, between a stage 1 and stage 2 air intake?? because from the descriptions of them both, i didn't see anything different.
Are you talking about the AFe's? If so the Stage 1 is basically just a replacement for the stock airbox/filter. You use the stock intake tube and the Stage 1 replaces the Filter and Box http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/5410711.htm The Stage 2 is a complete replacement icluding a new, and much larger intake tube in addittion to a replacement filter and air box. http://www.bmcspeedshop.com/product_p/5410712.htm You will want to get the Stage 2!
Listen to everyone who has posted up, they have the experience. I can't believe MoMo made a contribution AND did not discuss EQ related topics. WOW, just WOW! lol
