this was a couple in their 80's coming home from one of their senior events...some :censored::censored: 19 year old who was driving like a lunatic and on unidentified drugs hits their car...both people died by being burned to death...

You know Chris, I had an uncle that rode cycles for years. FIRST time I was on a cycle, he lost it and a 12 year old Momo was nearly crushed. Never been on one of those things since, and never will again.

The margin of error is SO minute... just be safe damit.

I just sold my two gixxers cuz I can't enjoy them and rarely have the time to ride them. I'll be back on one soon enough though. I'm not afraid of riding in traffic you just have to be real carefull and yeah shit happens but thats life. I was on my way down to the hoover damn with a few other riders when I highsided going around a corner. We were in a lot of traffic only doing 30ish, just cruising and before I could even blink I was leaving the bike headed for asphalt. The next thing I know I'm flying over the strip in a helicopter strapped to a spinal board. I was out for maybe a half an hour. Bits and pieces came back after talking to people that were there but it was definitly an eye opener. Only broke a few ribs and my collar bone. Not to bad for a low speed high side. No road rash either! I'd rather have broken bones then rash anyday.

i rode for one season, low-sided at ~40 about a month after getting in the saddle, laid it down nice and neat on a sweeping left turn (panic stop, grabbed front brake), walked away w/ a banged up knee and not much else to show for it (thanks joe rocket).

bike was another story tho, cost me half of what i bought it for to get it fixed up. i jumped back on as soon as it was out of the shop and rode it 'til early november. i'd still be riding if it wasn't for my situation - i live in brooklyn nyc and the commute to my job (belt pkwy -> gowanus expy -> bqe -> brooklyn bridge -> water st) left something to be desired. the lanes on the gowanus (where most of the traffic is) are quite narrow and there's not much margin for error when splitting anytime theres a bigrig or two up ahead. guys in most everywhere else in the country have it easy compared to this, especially california - those lanes are huge! you can probably split with a prius. but here it's a tight squeeze.

i'll get a bike if i ever move outta here.. but in nyc it's pretty crazy, really a question of when, not if, you'll get taken out by someone. and like someone said, what chance does a 400lb bike have vs a 5000lb brick..
