What does the Jeep have for a rear-end? Is it an IRS? Has anyone broken the rear end? Seems like if you leave it in 4-wheel drive mode, breaking a halfshaft is unlikely. We regularly hit these with 500 HP and at least 500 ft-lbs of torque without breaking them. Seems like in 4-wheel drive mode you could hit 800-1000 ft-lbs and HP without breaking the rear because the power is divided up. Or do the Jeeps put 80-90% to the rear wheels? Sorry - I just don't know that much about the Jeep drivetrain.
Jeeps put 80%ish to the rear.. Its a dana 44 solid axle but modified which they originally were going to call it a dana 45 but decided against the decision. Its an open diff and no manufactors produce a posi, locker, anything for the rear. And yes some people have blown them up and with this drivetrain we knew it would happen so why not fix the problem first.
Well - I'm not the boss, but if you already have a solid rear axle, I don't see why there's a problem with replacing it with a stronger solid rear axle. Just my opinion of course. If you started narrowing it and tubbing the car, that would be different in my mind. Sounds like you may have the fastest SRT-8 Jeep coming soon.
I think Winstons turbo SRT8 Jeep will be the first to break into the 10s since its already built and running. It will put down 700awhp right now on the race tune.
Well I am not sure about all you guys but I am looking for high 10's to start and the track opens March 1st!:rockon:Whether I can be the first remains to be seen.....but I will make a prediction.......10.20's by September:dancing:I'll fill everyone in on how when I get it on the track. Now......how many of us are going to do it legally?I know Jmatt and I are.....who else is committing to the cage, tranny blanket, battery shut off and the rest of the safety stuff?
Oh shit, forgot about Winston. That fugger will definitely be in the 10's. He is still a member here, but there was a melt down a few weeks back so Winston only trolls here now (from time to time). His beast was built by KRC Performance (correct me if I am wrong please) and tuned by unleashed (Torre) tuning (who will soon be a SV here). That thing is amazing. Well Erik, I will NOT be adding a cage, blanket and battery shutoff (Maybe). lol I will continue to keep my car in street trim (as came from the factory) minus the engine and F/I of course. My race weight will remain right at around 4500lbs. Hopefully the ONE shot that I get at a 10.99 will be all I need. Otherwise I will be kicked off the track for breaching 11.49. haha Good Luck Erik. I know that you will obtain your goal.
MatFab, I would definately say your's qualifies as a Jeep. My rule, the faster you go, the harder it is to go faster, and in my opinion, I can't see an SRT8 Jeep getting in the 9s, on stock rims, and stock appearing. I truly think the believable boundary is about 10.5s.....maybe on a perfect pass. ...but...go for it dude, if anybody on these boards can do it, and has a shot, with real drag racing understanding....it's you. Good luck and keep us posted. --Chuck
if anyone has witnessed a 9 sec quarter either first hand or as a participant, you know how hard that is to accomplish. if anyone gets the jeep in its stock body form to run one, i would bow down to the master.
That's going to have to be some serious power to get that much weight down there that quickly... Lol!
My 1st 10 second pass will be without Rollbar. Will be legal soon after. Anyone building these cars/Jeeps that don't make them legal is and idiot IMHO. It's not just for your saftety, it's for spectators and passengers your showing off to. Mine will be full interior. My motor will be able to make enough HP to run way faster than the rest of the drivetrain. Fuel is going to become an issue. Going to take it slow. That's an oxymoron isn't it?
Throw my hat into the ring. I haven't had much time to fine tune so I am confident I won't be first but I do have the equipment to run right now.
You hit the 10's no cage, now you add a cage and figure where your going to cut the added weight. I bet many of your that hit the 10's back it off after that. So much of the car will become a race car after that barrier.
LX car in 9's? It will only LOOK like an LX car. Car will really need to loose at least about 1000 punds. Lightened car, full roll cage, light weight seats fuel cell. Aluminum block possibly bored and stroked. If blown it will probably be roots type or turboed and/or multi stage nitrous. Different tranny probably 6 speed or racing automatic (Torqueflite?) Dana Rear (or maybe 9") on a single piece staraight drive shaft. Probably custom gauging because PCM/TCM/ABS will be gone in favor of Fast type EFI controller or carburation with possibly redesigned front suspension. No longer a comfortable street car. I would be happy to settle for low 11's and some comfort.
