folks - what are you guys all running for fan settings on your preds???? just loaded a new cmr tune and the car is running a bit hotter than with just the canned 93 cai tune. i looked at the fan settings on the pred and they are numerous!!! hahahaha i was running around 185-195 before, now it is 195-205. want to get the sled back to the cooler temps but not with the high speed fan running all the time. with just the canned tune, i never heard the high speed fan kick in. thanks for the help guys!!!
Chris, Rick and I use an 'inverse' theory to the fan settings. Basically, the faster the MPH, the lower the fan settings for the high speed fans (you're moving faster therefore the wind is helping to cool things down)... medium speed fans are at a constant temp setting of around 182-185 across the mph range, and the low fan settings are set around 176. Did I confuse or help?!?!
Gee i wonder where you 2 got your info...with a 170 t stat i set my low fans to come on at 180 the med fan at 185 and the highs to kick at 188...i run 176-183 all day long cept in traffic where i can see 188 every once in a while
thanks guys!!!! i just liked it when the canned tune kept things at 190ish and i never heard the high speed fans (loud ones) kick on. i am going to play with things tonight and see. thanks again gents!!!
curtis - just got a note from mike at diablo.... he said for me to set the low mph low speed fans at 185, and leave the rest alone. makes sense considering that while at driving speeds, the car will be cooler with the wind coming in. i am mostly looking to keep things down temp wise while sitting in traffic.
I didn't know you came up with that! Thanks! Rick helped me and I just assummed he got it from 'somewhere'. Dam, you all are the founding fathers of fan temp settings! *Reason why I try to sit back and learn before doing.
no curtis, i have the priviledge to enjoy a fairly pleasant climate (except for the four months in the summer where the humidity is brutal). considering mike is also in florida, i am going to bet his advise might be pretty good for me. i am going to change things tonight and see how it works out. i will report back tomorrow!!!
wow i cant believe mike said that...to be honest the low fans dont have the juice to keep our cars cool. Just my 2cents...sitting in traffic during the summer when i just had my gsm fan mod the low and med fans couldnt keep below 200...now i never get above 190... Curtis I hope i didnt offend I was referring the "2" comment to bud and momo, not you, since bud got his info from me
The fans all have the same power, when it refers to low speed fan, it means 'how the fans will react when the vehicle is at low speeds'. FWIW, the medium speed settings are not used in the cars currently, just the slow and high speed settings. Thanks Mike
Mike are you 100% on this? I hate to ask because in mine I can hear the speed diff in the low and high...the low is very quite and the high sounds like a tornado... Maybe I am not talking about the same thing...Are you referring to the 6 settings for fans? 3 for high and 3 for low? because each has a low med and high for each setting. I think I miss read or miss interpreted what was being asked. I run my low settings for the 3 fan speeds at 180/185/190 and the high speed settings at 186/190/196 because at higher speeds the air flow does most of the work. This keeps me under 185 in traffic usually and to be honest the fans dont turn on when im running 70+ anyway so the high sets are pointless
john, when you are in traffic, do you hear the "tornado" fan running while sitting??? i never heard the high fans in traffic after the initial install of my pred. i run version 17. now with my cmr tune, i hear the high fans while at a light. i just wanted to see how to get things back to how they were before my cmr tune. do not get me wrong, my cmr tune from dave is awesome so i could deal with some fan noise at a light, but i really liked having the car run cool all the time without hearing that damn "tornado"!!! haha
OK, I see the confusion.... I was referring to the low/medium/high vehicle speed settings, of which the medium speed settings are not used.
It sounds like Dave did make some changes to your fan speed settings since they seem to be running more than the canned tunes. I'm sure he could tell you exactly what he did... Thanks Mike
mine only run when i hit 190 while sitting in traffic but thats what i have mine set at. I would be mikes right with dave setting them to come on lower...check your temp when you it it come on and see what the fan settings are Im considering getting a custom tune but with only intake/cats/exhaust/t-stat/spacers Im not sure its worth much...does dave do tuning without a previous b&g?
john - drop dave a pm. he did a tune for me based on my mods, which are very similar to yours. the car runs strong, especially in the mid range!!! he used my stock pcm to do it. as long as you have a pred, i am sure he can do something for you.... give him a hollar.
Chris/Mike... do they have an input on the tuner for hi-flo cats? Seems like some of the guys with the hi-flows seem to lose power on the Dynos after the tuner install?
drew - i know i lost some power after my hi-flows, but i attribute that to other issues within my exhaust and some other things. i told dave what i had for mods, including the hi-flows and the car seems to run stronger in the mid range and top end than the canned tune did. are you refering to cmr tunes or canned tunes drew???
Just looking to get the tuner, but with Moe and a few others, having lost a little power on the dyno after the addition of the tuner, just wondering if they are going to add a hi-flow specific setting to the tuner, or if it will have to be on a custom tune. Moe and I both broke the 400 rwhp with the hi-flow addition.
