I've been dealing with this inner struggle for about 3 months now, so please give me your HONEST opinions upon reading this........
I loooooooooooove my Charger. But for the past few months, I've been debating on selling or trading to something else. Such as RS4, M5, or my latest obsession, the new E63 AMG Merc. I looked at one about 3 months ago, and initially was not that impressed, but I didn't drive it, just looked. Well today I drove one. UNBELIEVABLY SMOOTH.
I've driven an M5, and not impressed. The RS4 doesn't make enough tourque or HP for my taste. But I can't decide if the E63 is worth $90K? Or if it's worth the forfeit of the love affair I have with my Charger. And I was just about to turbo or stroke the Charger. Money is not the issue here, so please don't take that into consideration on your opinion. Please base it off your own personal preference or desire. Would you rather have a turbo SRT8 Charger or the E63?
Think of things like this........push button suspension control (hieght and dampening), a car that is FULL of amenities that it would take me another several thousands in mods to the Charger to achieve, and probably still not feel as smooth. I simply cannot decide if it's worth doing $20K more in mods to the Charger, only to still not be satisfied with the enitre package. Does that make sense?
I am really confused here guys, and want to know what you all would do. If you had enough, would you build the Charger or trade for the E63? Oh, and by the way, it's a 6.2L V8 with 507hp and 465tq.
    Chase

Go with your other plan Chase. Cost will still be less than purchasing a E65 and you will gain MORE power. IMO

I raced a e63 yesterday on the freeway and he hung for a little while beofre I started to pull on him hard. I would slap a 426 and turbo in your car way before spending even more money on the MB name. IMO.
Now if ya had the cash to get the e65 thats a whole diffent story. And if you are looking to spend that much why not a VIPER!!!!!

Can't do Viper, would, but wife doesn't allow a 2door, thinks it means "I'm single."........

But it's not just about the power......that C63 was smoooooooooth. And here's how I look at the math:
    Charger - $45K
    Mods to date - $15K
Turbo, halfshafts, converter, install, etc......$15K +/-
    Total = $75K
And it STILL won't feel like that AMG (I mean the smoothness, that silky goodness)......I guess it's a trade-off.......

I think you may have answered your own question. Don't get me wrong, I love the Charger. But you mentioned putting another $20k into it and still not being happy with the whole package. To me, it sounds like you already have a decision - or at least a pre-conceived notion that you still won't be happy with what you have done to the Charger.

My vote would be to do up the Charger. With the SRT treatment its pretty unique to begin with. Add in the additions you are talking about and you have a very, very rare car. Sure there are things you can do to the MB, but if you are already spending $90k on a car, are you really going to want to mod it? Just my opinion Chase.

You know how much a tune alone is for the E63 AMG? dahahahahahaha Everything for that whip has a higher price tag.

It is a wonderful car though.

I dunno man. I appreciate all the feedback gents......really do.
I loooooooove modding my Charger, but every now and then, I wonder what it would be like to just have wheels, tires, exhaust, tune, and be done with it.........does anyone know any good sites for parts for the E? Would be nice to see what's available for it. I just looked at Renntech.

    Hey Chase,
I would do up the Charger.Just to be different.Half the fun in owning a performance vehicle is watching the HP grow as you change the mods.Im sure there are alot more Mercedes on the road than your 500+ hp SRT.Good luck on your choice

chase - i very much feel your dilema..... before i purchased my charger, i was a bmw driver for years. i looked at getting the m5 but opted out of it due to price and the fact i could get the charger for half. i am not even going to try and say the cars are of equal build quality.... they are not. i have been in the e and the bimmers and they are just flat out built better from a fit and finish stand point. but heres the thing.......

i drove luxury euros for a long time. i was a real gear head when i was younger and have always enjoyed cars. when i began driving the bmw's i owned, i very much lost the desire to mod and be a "car guy". not sure why, but i did. fast forward a few years to my purchase of the charger. i have once again found that love affair that is cars. yeah, the charger has more squeeks and rattles, and maybe some wierd quirks, but the car is just flat out cool and addictive. if i had a nickel for every time i have pulled into a parking spot and had some guy in a euro ride say"wow, beautiful car", i could stroke the charger!!! hahahaha for me it is a love affair and a passion. being an lx owner has changed my life in a lot of ways. i have met people that i probably would have never had the chance to meet and i have done things i probably would have never done. for me, having owned both charger and luxury euro, it is charger hands down. it is more than a smooth ride and pretty leather door panels...... it is a way of life for me......

Let's see... You've mentioned "smooooth" at least three time so far. Get the MB.

Personally, I like to feel the rumble in the seat. I like a not completely refined suspension. Totally plush inside is OK but I don't really want to feel like I should be wearing a dinner jacket. I don't think that's so much a moddin' car either right? You just won't be able to individualize it to the extent you've done your charger.

It's way more car but it's just a different set of intangibles. Not that one is better than the other. Sounds like you're more of an MB kind of guy (and it sounds like your wife is too). Just check to see that it isn't a short term impression kind of thing and get the MB.

Oh yea, thinking about it for 3 months doesn't count 'cause you've been driving the charger so you ain't missing that. Trade cars with the wife for a couple of months and make sure.

    Chase,

As others here have said, it really is "a horse apiece" when it comes to the choices you are faced with. Before my Jeep, I never would have thought of buying a "domestic" for my only car. I had a 96 Tahoe while I owned my S2000 that was my daily driver, and I love american trucks, they know how to build 'em. I got rid of my S2000 and my 03 Acura TL to purchase an 05 Acura TL 6-speed, nav, fully loaded. Had my acura for exactly 2 years to the day, and did a few things, nothing major to it, and loved it. As soon as I drove the Jeep, I was in love. Sure, it took me a while to get over the 8 inch touch screen nav, better leather, better fit & finish, and nicer dash and door panels, but as soon as I put my foot down all my complaints about the Jeep melt away.

As for the smoothness, the E is an awesome car. My dad has been a Merc driver for years, currently in an 08 E550 4-matic fully loaded with the sport package, and I drive that car, and it amazes me how smooth the ride, power delivery and handling are for a car that size. Unfortunately, it makes me feel old (i'm a ripe 25) so that to me is a big turn off. I myself had a 97 C280 sport black/black when I was 18 and it was fun and all, but again, just made me feel old even then. That's what I got rid of for the S2000.

My Jeep reminds me most of my S2 just because it's all enthusiast. It's just a raw experience that no other car can really provide in it's class. The Benz is a great car, but not a very enthusiast-friendly car. While its fast and smooth, if you have the Mod-bug, which it seems you do, you won't be happy at all. Take the cost of mods for your charger and double if not triple it to do the equivalent to the Benz.

I say keep the charger, go balls out with it, and spank all the local E63's in the area.....you'll be happy you did!

anytime brother......anytime......... the merc is sweet and smooth, but it does not command the attention of the charger.....especially one as cool as what you own!!! enjoy what you already have and dream of making it better........ the grass is not always greener on the other side........ i speak from experience!!!
