The install was done by Kooks, so I'm very disappointed to be getting these codes: Straight from dashhawk: P0153: Heated Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-21). P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). P0133: HO2S Sensor Circuit Slow Response (HO2S-11). P2000: No additional information is available. I did some searches and it seems that the reason for these codes is that the primary/secondary sensors were mixed up. Anyone deal with this?
the 420 is common with hiflow cats but I have not noticed others having the other codes....maybe you have some leaks?..
I believe it would be impossible for the left and right 1/1 and 2/1 to be switched to opposite sides. Meaning sensor 1/1 is connected to the right electrical connector but is installed in the 2/1 spot. It is possible that sensor 1/1 has been switched with sensor 1/2. For both sensor 1/1 and 2/1 to throw slow switching codes means: 1. Exhaust leak 2. Signal circuit 3. Return Upstream signal 4. Aged sensor. These codes set on a two trip test. It will take three trips of proper activity to turn off the light by the ECU. Understanding that you did not have these codes before tells me that the sensors apparently where working fine. For three codes to pop there is no way that you suddenly lost three sensors. The catalyst code is thrown because of the hi-flow cat / or complete removal of the cat. A cmr tune can help you or use a mechanical eliminator for the two downstream catalyst sensors. For the two O2 sensors it is possible that they may not be fully plugged in to the electrical connector or the wires where not routed away from the header correctly and they got burned, slow switching is 90% of the time caused by an old sensor. Either way I've not seen these codes for sensor 1/1 and 2/1 be caused by simply adding headers.
The installer either crossed up the primary and secondary o2 sensor wiring or you have rub out, short, burnt wire etc on the o2 extension harnesses.
from your experience, how long should it take the installer to fix this? kooks is a 2 hour round trip for me, and if i need to leave the truck there i need to get a ride as well.
Honestly, with the codes you are throwing, I don't think things are messed up. Just the normal codes thrown with Kooks. PM sent.
Crossed!!! Just like Inferno stated you have either crossed the wires or installed the front 02 sensors in the rear and the rear in the front. Been there and done that!!
what am i risking if i just let it ride and either ignore the codes or block them from popping up? is it worth it to get the wiring correct?
My Opinion In my opinion it is one thing to have a 420/430 code that is only for "catalytic inefficiency" based on the front sensor not seeing the rear sensor signal. Of course this signal is only in closed loop. The O2 sensors adjust fuel delivery and timing to achieve minimum emissions, better gas mileage and power driving around town. At WOT the ECU does not depend or read the 02 sensors so this condition will not affect you at WOT. In summary, how important is driveability? In town is it running rough or is your gas mileage suffering? In personally dont know how this condition will affect timing and fuel delivery long term and whether or not it would cause engine damage down the road. I personally would get it repaired correctly.
Remember the front O2 sensors and rear O2 sensors are also DIFFERENT and perform seperate roles. So check the wiring, but if the condition still exists check to make sure you have your O2 sensors in the correct position.
I wouldnt drive it much with these codes popping up, you may start to run lean/rich etc. Sent you a PM promo.
Check the plugs.They may not be fully engaged.Also I have seen the aftermarket plugs push the pins out of the factory connector.This will cause the codes you have.The 0430 is a code you will have with the LT headers......0420 as well.
From Blown 7 I had to go over to the red site and see what was happening and this same subject is posted. Besides what I have explained to you, contrary to other beliefs or myths, you just can not "fix" this. You have a problem and it isnt just the rear sensor not seeing the temp/signal it needs. Quote from Blown7 First lets understand B&G or Diablo doesn't "Fix" it, the modification to the tune just sets an emissions "Not Ready" that doesn't illuminate the MIL/CEL light. I see you live in NY and I believe you have emissions testing, when you go in for testing your Jeep won't pass emissions as it will show "Not Ready" on the OBD test. I get a little tired of all the hype of all the folks touting that the tuning companies "Fixing" the header codes, they can't. They just "hide" them. Somebody should try wrapping the headers to keep the heat in and see if it will keep enough heat in for catalyst light off........... __________________
truck's at kooks now. they switched the driver / passenger side rear o2 sensors and "system too lean" codes popped up. all 4 circuits were checked out and loop fine. i'm having them swap the passenger side front / rear sensor to see if that helps. that's about all i can think of for them to do at this point. in the mean time, they got me in touch w/ josh @ hhp who says that the 153/133 codes are normal.. he's seen them with other kooks installations and tuned them out. thoughts?
kooks swapped the passenger side sensors (front <---> back) and after 35 miles two of the same codes popped up, 420 & 153. I'm baffled at this point, I thought that at the very least I would get a new code with this arrangement. Anyway it's been a long day, the passenger side sensors will be swapped back and that will be that, for now. I'll put some more miles on it and see if something changes. Maybe one of the sensors was damaged during the install.. in that case the next step is to get new ones and hope that solves the problem.
