Just left my car at the dealership to get the tire pressure system fixed and a new problem showed up. It looks like I have about 2% left on my rear break pads and I need to get them replaced. What break pads should I go for? I know there are a few good aftermarket pads out there and I wanted to see what was the best as far as price and performance. I'm only looking to replace the worn out pads so the front ones will remain stock. Thanks John
GSM has Satisfied brake pads that are rumored to be pretty good. Some here have Centric (I believe that's the name), but some have replaced the aftermarket one's they've tried with new stock pads. The aftermarket one's create less dust, but they don't work quite as well (brake feel/stopping distance) is the general consensus. Legmaker (Chris) will chime in sometime to spout his vitriol.
EBC makes red and yellow stuff pads for the SRT8 Brebmo's too. I have Satisfieds in the rear and still stock on the front. Its hard to tell the difference since the fronts do most of the stopping.
I'm hearing great things about the EBC red stuff pads from BWoody he has them on his Jeep right now. Centrics suck I have them and hate them, I will probably get the G6 satisfied pads next do not get the G5 they squeel, either replace the rotors or at least have them turned before putting on new pads
You can have my Centric Posiquiet pads for free (you pay shipping). They have about 5K miles of use on them (in other words, low dust, but no grip and some low speed brake "squeal"). I now have EBC's 7000 series (SUV series) front pads (low dust, guaranteed no noise) on the same stock/scored rotors, and I've had absolutely NO noise issues. Grip is close to stock, and I'm very happy after having used the stock and Centric pads over the past 20K miles. From what I gathered from reading about the various EBC brake pad formulations, the 7000 series is close to the Redstuff EBC pad BWoody is selling, and the Yellowstuff EBC pads have "25%" better grip but with more dust. I choose the 7000 series because of the guarantee of no noise/very little dust with reasonable grip, and also because the redstuff pads were not yet out for our Brembo's. Hope that helps
I'll extend that offer to anyone that PM's me as well. The only caveat to that is I won't be home for a month. But, they won't be back on my car and I'd just as soon free up some space in the garage (San Diego = small garage)
I ran the posi Quiets on my former SRT8 and have them on my current SRT10....almost no dust, never a squeek and stop almost as good as stock pads..I am very happy with mine.......but if you road race Bud can point you in the right direction as far as pads go...
I have the Satisfied pads, front and rear. One months worth of dust looks like 3 days worth of the stock pads dust, performance? IMO they stop the same as the stockers! I highly recomend them over stock pads, cheaper price same performance, less dust!
Well BUD, what would be a good pad for my upcoming SRT experience and better DOT brake fluid better I saw Amsoil came out with their kind and do the SS brake lines really make an improvement
There goes Larry, hitting the moonshine laced with PCP again. I'm not Bud, but he'll likely reply that the stock pads are excellent stoppers, although dusty (IMO: Dodge put the Brembos on our cars for a reason - to get the best braking possible for the size of the brakes - as braking is one of SRT's performance goals). One thing I could suggest, although someone with more knowledge should chime in, is to inquire about the drilled and slotted rotors. Rick literally had his brakes SMOKING after a hard run on the Eastlake Proving Grounds 'Track'. Brake fluid? I have no clue.
The stock brake pads on the Jeep are great for stopping but we ALL got this horrible squeel from them to the point it was embarrassing to drive and sounded ghetto. I have the Centrics and they do not stop well and I will more than likely get the DiscItalia DS rotors and either the G6 pad or the Red Stuff pad
My understanding is that slotted rotors will give you somewhat better dust and gas evacuation from the pads. Drilled will as well and maybe a bit better wet performance. Although I believe the main reason for drilled rotors is weight reduction. On a 4,000 lb. car drilled rotors are mostly for bling. Downside to drilled rotors is that they can be prone to developing cracks -- the race guys replace them often. As to Rick's brakes smoking, that's to be expected under hard use. It's normal for your rotors to get red glowing hot under heavy use -- Note: don't apply the brakes while standing still with your rotors glowing.
