Make sure you keep the dust off of them......the chrome is not thick enough to hold up against it.Here's what my wheels look like after 6 month's.I cleaned them regularly with Mothers Chrome Polish and Wax and they have never seen winter.I actually had to use 000 to knock the pitting down!
Man Erik...would having them Re-chromed help you out? or will that just lead to the same problem later down the line?
Daum... that sucks Erik! Nice wheels, wonder if you could get a thicker coating put on? I would send them back if they are doing that bad that soon.
Haha......there's an entire thread on that issue on LX.Seems the vendor doesn't deal with the product he sells. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=96508
Erik, do you have a local shop that does good chrome work? Might be worth taking one of the wheels over to them and get a professional evaluation of the chrome job.
Holy crap! Those looked awesome too...but wondering how they'll look after a couple more years. Bastards!
LMAO!This is the Adirondack Park........the only thing we have here is tree huggers and loggers.........doesn't that sound like fun?I am just going to deal with these till I can afford some nice forged stuff......or find a set of stock wheels cheap.
Hey wanna see what not to do as a vendor......check out the latest and greatest in this thread http://www.lxforums.com/board/showpost.php?p=1321049&postcount=90
:mouth: Wow. I am still NOT convinced that it was the wax that caused the pitting. I have waxed my Chrome for many many years (including gold plating) and have NEVER had a pitting issue. I firmly believe that the actual Chrome Plating is the culprit. I have experienced this personally. The 4 rims could have been the last items in the vat of chrome before the chrome was disgarded for a new run... The rims could have been exposed to moisture at the plant when settling. Too many variables to finger point that "Wax" was the cause. IMO. I do agree that Bones Enterprises has been a stand up vendor and has always come through, but damn, that was a bad post.
Im not going to take sides on this matter, because I think both people involved are good guys. I just think this situation should have been handled differently. Should have just waited to see what the manufacturer decides on before either involved starts bashing the other. As it is now I can't say I blame either guy for being frustrated with this ordeal.
That sucks Erik, I had WELD chrome 20" rims on my Excursion and they were warrantied 24 times for the same issue. Now understand that means 24 times I got 4 new rims from WELD and the warranty started all over again from the date of install. I had the best balanced tires in the state everytime I got new rims they got rebalanced. Sorry to hear.
Draggin what you need to see is that I never bashed him.I posted what was happening to the wheels without revealing where they came from or any other details. He jumped in and immediately pointed the finger at me.The thread went south from there.
wow erik, this sucks!!! very sorry to hear this happen!!! the idea that wax could have led to this is ridiculous!!! i have dealt with numerous chrome shops over the years and every one of them always recommended waxing the chrome in order to seal the pores in the plating...... i really hope you get a positive resolution....
I agree that it's probably the chromeing process used was done on a budget. Could also be a poor casting process where the chrome covered it up.
What I ment about handled differently..... He mentioned about you never contacting him via email/phone/PM, and that comment was never disputed? Perhaps if he was contacted privately about this issue, and everyone actually waited to see what the manufacturer was willing to do.... Then maybe the whole aurgument could have been avoided. I see your frustration about this, mods aren't cheap! probably why I don't really have any. But I also see his frustration, He put a lot on the line to get these rims to all of us. He has a reputation to uphold and buisness to maintain. All this bashing could put him out of buisness, or atleast cost him quite a few sales. Im not saying either of you are wrong in this situation, just think waiting to see whats gonna happen first would have been better for both parties involved.
