No parts is a real issue. A differential change would do wonders. An old school guy (I was racing dirt bikes back then) would not believe we are trying to get a 2 ton car down the strip using a gear ratio of 3.02 : 1. He would likely say "are you retarded'?

If the HEMI motor is discontinued can you imagine the value of these vehicles in 20 years?

its just a sign of things to come. There will always be performance but what is pushing you will be changing over the next few years. I'm sure the twin turbo 4 or 6 will be the next generations Hemis and Rat motors. I'm confident the next cars will be faster then ours but they won't have the rumble in the seat that makes ours stand out.

Why don't they just obligate us to plant 5 trees when we buy a Hemi....
The death of the Hemi in the passenger car will never kill the Hemi. Look at how much stuff you can still get for the big block 426....even Chrysler is still making crate engines. If they don't someone else will....I wouldn't mind a Keith Black 392.

So Matt, inform a noob on the leaded fuel debate...I know we won't have a problem with unleaded but some of the funny cars, dragsters, etc run leaded don't they? Here's a copy of the article in PDF I got emailed to me today and I made it into a JPEG...

I know the article headline is sensationalized to imply all drag racing but still it is rather hypocritical from my understanding.

Chrysler dropping the Hemi because of fuel economy makes no sense at all. My 6.1 gets over 25 mpg at freeway speeds cruising. So it isn't like these engines are not effeciant. With better fuel manangement they are getting amazing economy and power from a basically small block displacement engine. Must be a cost to manufacture issue (in Mexico?) As far as unleaded fuel in drag racing .... That is just plain nonsense. Its happening in Nascar and that won't slow them down like they said restrictor plates would do.

and another well written and truly articulate response from the great gs!!! lol i will agree with you though, this could make things a bit tough for the motivation of the after market industry for these power plants...... i guess we will just have to do all we can now, enjoy the hell out of our rides and say we were all a part of the second coming of the muscle wars!!!! hahahaha

GM is developing an ethanol blend different than e85 that can run in regular gas powered vehicles they say can sell for 1 dollar a gallon....it was just on a Detroit newstation as an announcement from tonight's DI Auto Show. I suspect this would be front page news tomorrow if there's substance to it....wonder what would need to be converted with this blend though...fuel lines, injectors? etc.

The lifters I know for sure are from Germany. I think it may have some to do with the severed Benz relationship. The euro is getting way too high and it seems the hemi is designed around German parts. Not sure of the degree this might play, but it has to be part of the problem.

The demise of the pushrod is coming gentlemen, it's really only a matter of time. OHC allows for much more precise control of the valvetrain which is going to be uber critical in meeting future emissions standards.
The thing I'm going to miss most is the displacement. Even if there are to be 500hp+ cars in the future they will almost assuredly be based on a small to moderate displacement engine with a turbo/blower.
Believe it or not Ford has been testing a twin turbo 7.0L version of their new Boss motor (5.8-6.2-7.0L with 4.54" bore spacing)--which will initially debut with 2v heads but will receive 4v castings a bit later. That SOB would be brutal!
