Ok - I got the first halfshaft out. I know I need to take the "tone ring" off the stock shaft, and put it on my upgraded halfshaft.

What in the world is a "tone ring" and what does it look like?

I have Erik's number, but I think it's too late to call him.

That's a great question. Search the threads there is one in the last 3 weeks or so where there was a picture of the GSM shafts and there was an arrow that pointed to the tone ring.

It's in a 12/28 thread in the GSM forum. It is the most current thread in that forum. Picture shows where it is at on the shaft and to me it looks like a real big washer. I am sure that it looks different if you had one if front of you. If I knew how to link the thread I would.

Thanks. Found that link. Swapped the rings. Now I need Erik to look at a pic for me to verify I installed the new halfshaft right.....

Does that look installed right? Is it in all the way? Should there be another seal?

    Awesome!

Thanks Erik. I already awe you a beer someday.
I told the guys on lxf's chat last night that whatever you're charging to do this.....is a bargain!!!!

I dropped the whole rear cradle because I'm swapping out my suspension again anyway. Those two rear bolts must have been on with about 300 ft-lbs of torque.

Not technically rocket science, but physically a grueling project.

For $200 I'd pay airfare round trip.

Seriously. I've swapped engines, transmissions. I've done suspension on this car about 15 times now.

    $200 is a bargain.

As I said - it's not like it's rocket science, but it takes a lot of muscling crap around. Unless you want to be like Erik and get fast at it by doing this 10 times, you'll never be able to do this as efficiently as paying him $200.

And I don't even know the man personally - this is a competely unsolicited, unbiased comment.

This is WAY more than a $200 job.

Oh - BTW: Those bolts would have been 165 pounds if one if mine wasn't cross-threaded coming from the factory.
