So yesterday I started putting back the intake manifold after letting it dry off for a week or so.

Wouldnt you know it the last bolt I got to torque to spec wont tighten down, its just keeps on spinning! :headspin:

So I run to the auto parts distributor by me and buy a 6mm HeliCoil set, but im way to annoyed and tired to do this so I did it this morning.

Tools used 1 1/4" drill bit new if possible, Dewalt cordless drill, use whatever you want the cordless is easier for me, auto vaccum cleaner with various attachments, center punch to break the tang off, hammer and the HeliCoil kit and some carpenters tape to cover the head ports so no shavings get in the heads.

I have never done a HeliCoil before so I was pretty nervous, knowing I screw it up im going to need a new head. I drill out the hole to 1/4" and I must tell you after doing this you know there is no going back you either do it right or your fu*ked. I make sure the drill is going straight in from all angles and drill the whole out nicely. Phew!!!!

Now im really sweating because I know there is no going back, so I get a little motor oil place it in a cup and drop the tap into it and start threading the whole 1/4, 1/4 turn back out clean the tap and redo, then after thet I go 1/2, 1/2 back out clean and reoil the tap I do this until I have a good 3/4" of new thread, mind you if you break the tap in the whole you really are royally screwed so be careful if you do this.

Now time to install the new 6mm HeliCoil, I thread the HeliCoil on the threading tool and thread the new 6mm HeliCoil into the new threaded hole, I get it 2 threads underneath the base and stop, I punch out the tang with a centerpunch and thats it a new 6mm threaded hole that is 10x stronger then the aluminum made threads.

Now the moment of truth, the manifold intake install, all goes fine and all the other bolts tighten down to spec and the new HeliCoiled bolt goes in like BUTTAA!!!!!!

I close it up add a filter to the oil breather line and now im waiting for my Elite catch can so I can finish this little project up.

All in all ide say that ide like to HeliCoil all the intake holes but ill do it as they get screwed up, took some crappy cell phone pics. :thumb3:

Hands down one of the BEST products I have ever used, Thanks HeliCoil!

Not the heads just the intake manifold, I was removing craplonic spacers they were leaking oil.

Nerve racking the first time, but not anymore. :yahoo:

Glad things worked out, this is a case and reason to always use anti seize when working on modern engines.
