So i want to visit New York either this year or next...does anyone have advice on where to stay...things to do...places to go...places to stay away from...etc......
NY is the best! hahaha :woot: ...if you have never been here...theres always the standard list Statue of Liberty Ellise Island Empire State Building Grand Central Terminal 5th Ave Rockefeller Center Central Park Wall Street Battary Park South Street Sea Port Times Square Radio City Music Hall the billion places to eat Broadway Ground Zero and where you stay depends on how much you want to spend lol...
well not a trashy place but not a thousand dollar a night place either...lol so what about the places to stay away from?
Obviously rates change depending on when you go, but you can stay at a Marriott in Times Square for around $320 a night from a search i just did on marriotts website...im sure if you use a travel site they can hook you up w/ a good deal...
haha...well if you need anything...theres a ton of us either from NYC or who live right outside of NYC...
Me and MRSSRT10 (Maureen) stayed at the Holiday Inn at Fort Lee, NJ. Excellent rates, and very accessable to NYC. It sits at the mouth of the George Washington Bridge. Ten minutes away from the Jersey side of the River where you can get breath taking views and pictures of the City. 20 minutes from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis island tours (New Jersey side). I think the price was 129.00 a night. The hotel is also a Full Serve hotel so you can eat there for a good price. Crappy pictures at night as our "OLD" camera sucks. lol But you can get the idea... http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f385/1bad4dr/NYC Pics/
When in Manhattan stay under 96th street and you will be fine. The meat district is now probably the most happening nite spot, 14th and 9th avenue is where that starts. There are clubs everywhere downtown, midtown and uptown ide beware of the ones above 96th like I said. Shoot me a pm if you need more detailed info.
there are some good resturants in harlem, it's not all bad!!! haha no really though, for someone who doesn't know the area that's good advice to stay below 96th street. if you want a cheap hotel you'll have to be outside of the city. cheap and manhattan don't go in the same senence lol
Hey above 96th is ok but like you said you need to know where to go and where not to. If your staying in Manhattan you better bring your amex. Places to eat just get a Zagats book theres too too many good ones to even try and name. BTW I dunno if I can give anymore advice to someone who runs faster then me, I just noticed that! :chair: :shifty:
just have Tony follow you around...nobody will bother you then hahaha but yeah...i'd agree that NOTHING in NYC is cheap...but you can get good food without needing to take out a loan haha... I'd also suggest limiting the amount of time you are in a cab to a minimum...nothing is beyond walking distance (depending on your definition of walking distance)... everything you'd probably be looking to see is south of Central Park anyway, so at the most if you walked all the way from Central Park to the tip of Battery park in a day your looking at about 4ish miles... BTW is this your first time going to NYC?
I would rather walk then be in a cab...so I would want a hotel within walking distance from most places I will want to go... yes this will be my first time in NYC....
well i'd just go to one of those travel sites and see what you can get deal wise...i suggested times square since it is a pretty easy place to stay because (as you would imagine) it is in a pretty good spot... how long of a trip would you want...that would help you plan out what you could do...if you have time i'd hit NYC in pieces like hitting Chinatown, south street sea port, battery park/wall street, statue of liberty , ground zero one day...then times square, Broadway, MSG, Rockefeller center another...then central park and any other stuff you might have missed
