I finally got around to pulling the GSM Phenolics off due to oil seeping thru which basically turned into an oil leak after the spacers got soaked with oil. Upon pulling the intake off I was disgusted at the to say the least at the condition of the intake manifiold walls, they were literally covered with oil. I bought Valvoline throttle body cleaner, pulled the throttle body off and the map sensor and sprayed the entire intake and ports with the cleaner and wiped it all down with rags. It now looks like it did when it came from the factory, SPOTLESS!!!! I also cleaned the ports on the heads, I sprayed some of the cleaner on a rag and cleaned as best I could getting as low into the ports as possible, again the walls were black with oil. I can honestly say I will NEVER start this SRT8 up again until I get my catch can installed. Its was ordered friday from Elite. Im also ordereing PPP's gaskets for the intake. If anyone is on the fence about a catch can, just pull your intake off or throttle body and take a peep in there you will be shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here are some pics of the cleaned components.
tony - after installing my catch can from BT, i was pretty surprised to see the amount of oil in the can after only 200 miles of driving.....
Chris I had a good 3-5 ounces of oil in the intake when I removed it. I was shocked and disgusted. Anxiously awaiting the catch can by Elite. Like I said ill NEVER start her up again without a catch can.
similar to what i found, maybe a bit more in yours...... still more than i would ever expect either way!!!
Tony glad to see you got her cleaned,...what gaskets does PPP offer that are different than the other Phenolic spacers, just wondering because I am still waiting to see the spacers from Billet Technologies before purchasing for this spring?
