Ok as alot of you know my wife Lisa not only operates BMC Performance but also founded and operates the Black Mustang Club, and has done so for 5 years. Well every year we do a calandar featuring the members of the month from the previous year..kind of like the ROTM here..well the Printing Company recieved correspondance from Ford yesterday telling them that we are not allowed to print pictures of our own personally owned vehicles for the calandar or any other merchandise for that matter. Now remember we did not use any Ford logos, sayings, emblems or anything of the sort on this calandar...only the club logo and members pictures that either the members or we took of THEIR own cars. So basically you can no longer photograph your own car and get a t shirt or print made of it according to Ford. The funny part is the site contained some pics of my SRT that we used to make a calandar for me and some other stuff..and Ford flagged those and we cant use them either...we cant even use a pic of my wifes car reflecting in the door of My SRT8 lmao.

This whole this is ludicrous...I invite you all to read this thread, and although you may not be Ford owners to post and or joing our fight as this really is about all automotive clubs and forums.

Here is the thread...have fun you will surely have some laughs!

Unbe-friggin-lievable!!!! What unmitigated arrogance. And unwarranted, I'm sure. A good attorney would have a field day with this corporate foolishness. Let them try and even get a day in court.

You don't need a petition. Source another printer, and print and distribute the calendar. Their case would not stand up in court. It won't even get before a judge. I bet their suit would be tossed in a heartbeat. Ford is counting on the small guy just backing down here.

ummmm no..... they have stepped way over their boundaries here....... the purchase of the vehicle makes it the LAWFUL property of the purchaser. just becasue they built it, does not give them domain over the product once it is delivered, in a lawful manner (purchased), to say anything. they give up their rights on THAT specific vehicle........ good lord, if this was in fact the case, we would have zero aftermarket for any car.. what a crock of shit!!!

Ahhh, that was explained in the thread (27 pages and counting ).

I'm not sure if I agree with it but lets try to discuss the issue and not jump outside of that (sigh...).

The main issue is in the context of SELLING things. I don't think it has anything to do with if you have the right to take pics of your car and post them. So there are two issues here. One strictly legal in what Ford CAN protect. The other in HOW Ford goes about this. Try to stay on point.

Sure I agree that in this particular case it's silly and Ford is being a curmudgeon. Then again it's likely that their scanning, selecting and detection is highly automated. At least initially. They HAVE to protect their brand or they lose it. That brand is a multi million dollar business (if not billion?). Having a hard and fast, fixed policy is way easier and cheaper to implement and also defend. It's easy to say "WHAT? Our little forum/community of enthusiasts?". From Ford's perspective you're one of 10s of thousands of vastly differing sizes and running the gammit from pure enthusiast to purely for profit businesses. Not easy for Ford to make that determination and much easier to just say no across the board. Size is not really the issue either. 1 small cut, 1000 small cuts, etc. Again depends on which side you look at it from.

And besides... it's Ford Mustangs... (oops, did I say that in my outloud voice?)

I guess some of the RIAA nazi's pull double duty at Ford's legal department. You should get the calander made with all the Ford emblems blurred out and send them a copy, along with a special page featuring a couple thousand signatures telling them them their policy sucks ass.

I think Ford's worried about the club making a profit off the pictures/calendars. I would've expected this from DCX but not from Ford.

I could see that if it was offered to the general public for sale..but the people buying it are mostly the ones featured in the calandar....and like I said in the thread...they can take all the profits from the club...cause there are none...maybe Ford would like to pay us for all the $$ we have put in to keep it running lmao!

Hmm, then maybe once again, Ford is/are shooting themselves in the foot. Makes nooo sense, but then I'm no lawyer.

Seems pretty stupid, considering how militant and devoted Mustang fans are. I don't see why they'd burn them like this.
