OK...dug out some info for the comparison between KW V1's and the Eibach Pro Street S coil over kit. There are some differences between the KW V1's and V2's which is the V1's do not have adjustable rebound dampening.

Remember, there is some difference in materials used between the two brands and that's already apparent in previous posts.

Here's some tech data + pricing and install costs:

    KW V1 Coilovers 10227016 www.kw-suspension.com
    Tech Data:
    Adjustable Lowering – Front .80†– 2.0â€
    Adjustable Lowering – Rear .90†– 2.1â€
Spring Rate – Front 500 pounds / inch
Spring Rate - Rear 855 pounds / inch
    Pricing:
    TByrne.com $1,275.00
    KW $1,475.00
    Les Schwab $1,585.00
    Charlie’s Drop Shop $150 per corner ($600)

Eibach Pro Street S Kit 2893.711 Eibach 800.507.2338
    Tech Data:
    Adjustable Lowering – Front 1.6†– 2.8â€
    Adjustable Lowering - Rear 1.2†– 2.0â€
Spring Rate - Front 502.57 pounds / inch
Spring Rate - Rear 857 pounds / inch
Eibach List Price – No direct selling $1,750.00 (List Price)
    Summit Racing 800.230.3030 $1,279.95 + S&H ($60)(Authorized Eibach Dist)
Les Schwab 503.648.0551 Parts $1,405.00 (Local re-seller and install shop)
    Les Schwab 503.648.0551 Install $700.00

    Analysis:

Do I need the more corrosive resistant materials found on the KW's or not? I do not live in a salt air environment nor do they salt the roads, or use corrosive liquids, to melt ice and snow here. So, I am fairly certain I do not.

Is the material used by KW inherently stronger than the Eibach materials? No telling. The material specs are not available.

Any major differences in spring rates? No.

Any major differences in lowering rates? Yes. The KW kit will ride higher based on the specs above. The Eibach kit has a greater range of adjustability. I've seen a car with KW's on it and it is loooowwwwww...so you may not need all the adjustablility available with the Eibach kit.

So, there you have it, folks. What I was able to find.

    Hope this helps!

For me personally, the *minimum* drop was of interest and definitely rules out the Eibachs (crap, maybe even the KWs). dammit, why can't they make a superior replacement that would accomodate the stock ride height?

Just to complete the research, I looked into the Tein system with their EDFC (damping control) and found:

    Tein System DSJ68-KUAS2 www.tein.com
    Tech Data
    Adjustable Lowering - Front .3” – 2.5”
    Adjustable Lowering - Rear .4” = 1.9”
Spring Rate - Front 671 pounds / inch
Spring Rate - Rear 783 pounds / inch
    Retail List $1,350.00
Add EDFC - control the damping force at the touch of a button while in the driver seat. This is accomplished by controlling stepping motors installed on each shock absorber. $380 – Total with EDFC = $1,730

So, the damping force is adjustable from the cockpit vs. having to get out, get underneath and adjust the KW V2's.

It's my opinion that adjustable damping force is a waste unless your car is a race car on the track most of the time.

But hey..what does a noob know? LOL

    Hope this helps.

I'm thinking out loud here, Chris but I would expect that there are some inherent differences, such as:

    1. Material Specification - Stainless vs. Powder coated steel, steel alloy specifications on the springs, etc...
    2. Damping Rates - Fixed vs. adjustable and those fixed values across the offerings + valve orifice sizing (controls damping and oscillation), fluid specification and dynamics. There's others, I'm sure but I'm no expert.
    3. The aforementioned spring rates.

For me it boils down to the cost/benefit. What does the set cost, do I need adjustability and do I need a higher quality steel. (KW vs. Eibach vs. Tein).

So, unless there's a supplier that can beat the Eibach price on a set of KW V1's, that's probably the direction I go.

Now...Ford vs. Chevy vs. Chrysler vs. all the others...not gonna go there. LOL
