That what is nice about the Vreds Ultrac SUV Sessanta. It is an SUV tire so it has a stiffer sidewall (is that the same as XL?). You can get Vreds that are not SUV tires, but I believe the 275/40/20 VRED is only available in SUV. I noticed an Internet price of $184 ea. Vreds are sortof soft with a 280 tread wear rating...what is the Nitto rating? Bud.. How many miles did you get on your Vreds? The NT05 is "W" rated... so it is 168 mph limited.

OK....so I put 200 miles on the NT05's today. Unfortunately it was in a "sorta" business setting in the mountains so I couldn't really test them out and "seem" professional. I did do a little spirited driving and the NT05's performed brilliantly. Dave, I had them at 31 psi (cold). When I got back to work the car sat for 5 hours and I went to the base garage and set them to 33 psi. "I" liked them at that pressure on the drive home from work...in traffic albeit. I plan on getting up tomorrow and testing them out at the Proving Grounds (the true baseline). However, I do agree with you that they transition rather smoothly, confidently, and predictable. I FUCKING LOVE.....having stiff sidewalls back. the Toyo Proxes 4 are complete junk for "REALLY" spirited driving. Those that are an RPM or MPH from a fun drift need something better. The NT05's and Vredesteins are the "better".
So I guess it wouldn't be worth checking to see if you scrubbed them anywhere down towards the diamonds?
I didn't get anywhere near the diamonds...but I'll check! That's why I won't give a full review yet. LOL EDIT....I got up on the diamonds a little!
I think when comparing track (road racing) temps to spirited driving (mountain twisties) running them at 33-34 psi makes sense. With road course racing and starting them at 28-30 psi makes sense. You'll quickly get them in the high 30's in no time. With spirited driving you do a couple "semi intense" twisties and then drive a bit. I check my pressures (TPMS) after fairly spirited 15 minute run and they were around 35 psi. I'll keep tinkering with them and see what "I" feel good with.
