It is my understanding that Wavetrac is currently ready to develope and fabricate another great option for those of us that can not afford $5,000 for a Ford "8.8 or Ford"9 limited slip or posi-traction rear end differential. Who needs all the whining, noise and oil leaking experienced with the Ford 8.8??? As you know once we increase power, traction becomes a problem. The DANA 44 is a great rear differential and has been around in the Jeep forever. Our DANA44 is a metric version and the slight change to the ring and pinion gives us absolutely no option for upgrade compared to the standard Dana44 and the Super44. The non metric version of course has a tremendous option capability but finally the metric version is finally getting attention!

The option of installing a Ford rear end means a drive shaft, transfer of disc brake systems and of course the cost of the unit plus installation of the unit. We have recently seen the success of JDOC using the Wavetrac unit in his Western Differential Ford 9".

George/Muellge (thanks George) shipped (at his costs) his Jeep rear end to Wavetrac in order to spark their interest to support our community. The end result is Wavetac is ready to fabricate a unit to fit our factory Dana44, however Wavetrac is not willing to begin fabrication unless they get a absolute minimum order. They state that since the Jeep SRT8 is a low production vehicle they are reluctant to jump in and completely absorb the development/fabrication costs. They stated that the costs for the unit will be $1,100. which falls in line with the Wavetrac systems for the BMW 3&5 Series, Mercedes AMG Series, Chrysler LX&LY, Porsche, Honda, Ford and GM. Obviously high horsepower/torque is not an issue!

If we can get ten(10) members to commit to $500.00 we can finally have a limited slip unit that fits our metric DANA44!! This is a no brainer......$1,100 vs $5,000!! This is FAR more exciting and performance useful than a Mopar TCM, Throttle body or cat back!! This will allow us to FINALLY get the power to the ground without spending $5,000 for a complete differential on a pallet!!!

Also you can install 4:11 gears from Richmond.....disconnect the driveshaft and now pick up 2-3/10's.

What do you say??? Any interest to get this thing finally built for our community???[/B]

is this setup still going to use the stock axles? maybe I'm wrong, but it was my understanding that they were a weak point and I thought that's what everyone was breaking??? Does anyone know what spline count and diameter they are? I guess two wheel peel will distribute the power more evenly so it may be a help, but I'm a little skeptical if in fact the axle is the weakest point 'cause then we're talking custom axles as well. Still under 2 grand I guess... Can someone shed some light here please? I'm sure George covered this ground when going into this process... George? I'm in otherwise.

Glad to see interest in this. Go get'em Sarge. Sounds like there are enough in to get the first ten deposited and a first unit started on. As you all know, Autotech/Wavetrac is a manu and they had a local dealer that they were going to run the buy through, but frankly, not much effort or visibility (none) from them. Eddie at SHR has spoken with Dana a few times and came to some terms that sound exactly like those above. I think Eddie and Sarge spoke this a.m. as well. Eddie's certainly willing to collect and send the money, and otherwise ride herd to get the buy done. I'd do it, but frankly, a storefront who will likely be installing one of the first units for shakedown ;) is probably a better candidate.

On the axles, that might be something to consider down the road. only a few have broken, maybe one in our current set ups - Young Medic in his video. Sarge and Junior had some axle troubles with their set ups, iirc. I'd like to see what happens. They are solid and not like the high as giraffe nuts lx shaft upgrades that we'd be faced with having to duplicate. I'd like to break one first and see what happens, but the possibility of having my other set sent out to dss or another shop to get a better set fabbed up seems like a good idea.

    Good development!

I am with you on the break one first as well. I know there are a few companies out there that will make a set of custom axles for under $500 bucks or so. Moser comes to mind, but there are others. Frankly, I've not had one of these things apart so I don't know much about the axles and their spline count, length, diameter etc, etc. I'm willing anyway, so I am in... Add me to the list. Where do I send the money and how?

Someone made the larger axles for the ones I broke.....there are several vendors who can make these for us if required. Currie has heavy duty Dana44 axles for $400. I'm sure we can send them one and they can take care of it for us. The first step is getting the Wavetrac built!

Good deal George! Thanks for sending in your rear end for the development!

    Steve
