I had a deal with a local guy to buy a 6.1L long block for a street rod project. I went to his place twice to check out the engine. I agreed to pay his asking price. We were just waiting for him to pull the motor out of his late 60s Charger project then we were ready to pick it up. Now this guy has just disappeared. Over the past week he has ignored 4 phone calls, PMs, and a post on his own damn thread. The biggest kicker is that by waiting for him I missed out on another engine from a member in Nor-Cal. This sucks all around. http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=227588
So what was the deal on checking to see if it wasn't stolen? What kind of number did you use and where did you find it on the motor? Who did you send it to to run it?
The last 8 of the VIN and the block serial number are both on a pad behind the oil filter. I was going to have San Diego PD run it, but we couldn't get the number of the motor while it was in the other guys car. His fabbed motor mounts were over some of the pad. I told him I would take it anyway.
Just Ralph's last post, before lock down saying he needs to swollow somthing or other??? That truly SUCKS ass, Adam. However, take it as a blessing in disguise. Likely the motor was stolen or something was really wrong??? You'll find your motor soon enough.
Just to play the devil's advocate (without ever reading that thread), if he's stopped posted on the forum all together, maybe something in life came up. I've had to fly out of state on a whim for a family issue (talk about paying out the ass for tkts!). I also upset a guy that I was supposed to buy another HK USP from b/c I went MIA due me being deployed to fires in my county and absolutely no way to access a computer. Again, he may very well be an azz hat, but maybe something more important than slingin' a motor came up in the guy's life....
well maybe before you jump in maybe you should know all. we went and visited him a couple of days after we drove to his house and told him we would take the engine at asking price. Adam also called and PM'ed him many time. i personally called and left a message. we also checked to see if he had logged in to the forum and he had after he was sent PM's. he also started to more for sale threads for other items after we told him that we would take the motor. so i guess what i am saying is that if you want to defend him but you don't know what is going on or don't even read all the post to see what has been said then maybe you should do so before you try to explain what he is doing or why.
your right, i'm sorry. the story is listed in my post. after doing a little research today i believe this guy is buddies with another not so great member of the forums in our area who only comes around to sell stuff and then does not always deliver. this seller just got under my skin because adam missed out on another good deal because we told this guy we wanted this motor and we stand behind our word.
You're right, I DON'T know all the details. The thread seemed to be removed, that's why I am playing devil's advocate. If what you're saying is true, then yeah, he's a punk. But honestly, the first post of this thread gave no workable info other than a (now) dead link. Exactly. Trust me, I'm all for calling fuggers out on lies (it's what I do), but when there's no unbiased info to work from, I tend to look at the worst case scenario or, at the very least, both sides of the story. But if what Ralph is saying is true...Gonna have to side w/ the azz-hat interpretation of this fellas character....
And if someone in the "know" would like to, please PM me his screen name/AKA. Just so I can avoid future transactions with this seller. Thanks...
His screen name over there is str8blk01 and his buddy is srtmechanic. Sorry about the dead link. When I posted it obviously the whole for sale thread was still there.
