SO I was out doing a track day and I was coming down the the back straight, Jeep down shifted very firmly, Stayed in 3rd and wouldn't shift to 4th but also was revving past 6200. Got off the track and got my first transmission over temp alert. Now it will barely catch in first and only shift to second then goes to nothing. Had it towed home and dropped the pan. Pics below. So my question is for anyone that has had a trans or torque converter failure, what did you experience? Oh, and now I get a p0700 trans code. Trans fluid is a reddish brown.
Well, you certainly burnt the fluid. Are those metal shavings in the pan as well? Have you put new fluid in and tested?
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction Haven't had problem, so will just add code definition. I'm sure you will get some good answers in awhile.
Ouch. Did the fluid level seem to be where it should when you took things apart? Chad, I had a much smaller issue than you with my tranny. The fix? I just got drunk and ordered another torque converter. A few beers later I ordered a new transmission. Problem solved. See? Easy.
The magnet has about an 1/8 to a 1/4 of shavings on it and the stuff in the pans is some of those shavings and a little piece of rubber. I have not put anything back into it yet. Just happened last night. The fluid level was good. I am with you on the ordering thing but if the cheaper thing was the only thing broke I would be much happier.
Maybe you will get my transmission...my core outta be showing up around tomorrow...lol. Chad, I went from a stocker with a BB valve body to an SHR with the blue tops. I am in NO WAY knocking the BB valve body, but the downshifting when driving around town was harsh, and continuous, and harsh, and cont...ya, you get it. I don't know how yours was as I know some BB VBs seem to perform differently than others, but my impression of the SHR setup seems to be somewhere between a stocker and my BB valve body. WOT was perfect with the BB VB I thought.
My core got to SHR a couple days ago. I asked them to do an autopsy. Trans ran fine but I'm curious how it looked inside.
Well it looks like I also fried the torque converter. I was getting a S/C whine a session before this happened. Chase mentioned he had it when his trans went. I thought it was just one of the pulleys on the belt loop.
