I will still be using the 09' 5.7 heads and the 235/247 cam I have been running all along. With the valves unshrouded and the cam advanced 4* now that I have more room I expect a healthy bump in power....considering the 5.7 base motor ran 11.6's in good air and 11.8's in 1500' the ET drop should be substantial.:D

    CR?
Why stick with the 5.7 heads?
    Any other changes?
Why buy a short block, when you could have built one for less? You have the skillllzzzz!

Got a good deal on the short block and with the $1000 gift certificate I won it was a no brainer. Also Arrington stands behind their motors so if there is ever a problem it's taken care of.
Sticking with the 5.7 heads because A) They flow more air and make more power than 98% of the 6.1 heads out there and B) It has a much more efficient combustion chamber and a smaller chamber as well. The compression ratio will be 10.7:1.....right about where it is on the current motor.

The 09' 5.7 heads have 6.1 ports on both the intake and exhaust......no need for spacers.....been running ported 6.1 intake with a 90mm for over a year now.

Ahh, didn't know that. Hmmm, how does that effect quench now? I would think better, no? With advancing the cam, how much timing do you expect to be able to run now? What caused you to change, anything happen to your 5.7L based 392?

The quech will be .048 with an added shim in the gasket or .038 with a stock gasket.A stock 6.1 has .080 so yeah....a tad better. I am expecting to see the same 27* of timing I have now. And the rings and cylinder walls in the current motor have outlived their ability to seal....so I needed a motor.

That'll do it....didn't realize, thought you had a fresh one that may have taken a dump. Glad you got your money out of it.

With the quench damn near perfect, now, ~27 degrees of timing, 10.7 CR, that cam and topend...you will have a serious N/A beast...i bet you shave .5 off, and I'm being conservative.
    Nice job E!

    Is it in yet?
