So I installed my new Stop Tech pads. Which for anyone that hasn't tried to do your brakes it takes about a 1/2 hr to do the fronts. The most time spent is taking the wheels on/off. Also to note, I have around 15k miles on my Jeep and I am on my 5th set of pads. Love me some road courses. So I go to my usual bedding area, a little industrial park and the first thing I notice is that when doing my 60-10 mph stops, I am coming to a stop way before my stop sign. I do my 6 runs and every time I am stopping well before the stop sign. The Hawk HPS pads that I had on before, would get me to the stop sign. I never liked them or the feel and so far I am liking the Stop Tech pads and will continue to post on these pads.
lol, so you're blowing through a stop sign at 10mph 6 times in a row? (you're not ever coming to a full stop while bedding your brakes are you?)
You are correct, which is why I go to the industrial park on a Sunday. It's vacant and I would hardly call 10 mph blowing through a stop sign, that is like a slow crawl. lease:
I'm not worried about your blowing a stop sign. I was worried that you were actually stopping with red hot rotors and pads. When I bedded mine I was deathly afraid of having to stop. I was thinking of doing it on the freeway after midnight so I could drive for miles without any chance of having to stop but I figured doing successive 10-6-10s might look rather odd on the freeway... and I had visions of crawling down the berm with a black and white trailing me with lights on while I was on my cell phone to the police station explaining that I wasn't evading arrest and if they could tell the officer that if I stopped my brakes might catch on fire . I hunted around and found some really remote stretch of 2 lane out in the country a ways with turn arounds and everything.
I bedded mine in going down a mountain. I was stopping and accelerating fast enough that only a few people even saw what I was doing. (10 stops 60 to 10 and 3 stops 80 to 10) I've heard good things about the Stoptech pads but I didn't know they existed until recently. So I got some Carbotech's. (love them so far) Les
Luckily for me if I find that I don't like the pads I have, it only takes a road course for me to have to buy new ones.
