I know some of you locals remember that when I bought my car, there was something wrong with the vac lines, and Kingnate and Mains recommended I return it to stock, like this. Well, I recently found this diagram and was wondering if I should reconfigure?
The second picture shows the use of a fuel regulator and completey bypasses the solenoid. My questions would be, do you have that same setup?
The only thing I don't have is a fuel regulator. Does Nevin have a fuel regulator? I didn't think he did, but I know he is off of PCM control.
stay on PCM control on a stock turbo. Anyone that tells you that its a grand idea is a moron... Watch as I say this Dysphagia will pipe up and say its ok just to make me look like a fool LOL To understand that joke you have to know Dysphagia knows more than anyone currently on this site in regards to the NSRT4
Well then, lets get him to chime in here. I want to make more power, without spending any more money. Haha. I spent it all getting parts to fix stuff that the dealer should have taken care of before selling the car.
As i recall you are on the stock wastegate. Do not use that second diagram as a guide for your car if it still has the stock wastegate. Letting the PCM control the boost is a very good thing. If you are thinking about getting an aftermarket wastegate the second diagram would work for that. With that said I personally would not run an aftermarket wastegate, the little bit of power it makes comes at a very high price in drivability. I say that with first hand experience, I had a monster 16lb wastegate on my car for about a year and it really makes the car unfun to drive. EDIT: So I looked up and saw the "Forge WGA" in your sig(doh), the same thing applies to that particular wastegate, taking it off PCM control would make it surge like no other. Does your car have the DCR oil mod? that is a very cheap way to unleash some of that hidden power in the NSRT motor. Another way to make power cheap is learn how to port, a full port job on the turbo, intake mani, and TB make a big difference. Did you ever get rid of that bottleneck in your exhaust? that is a power robber right there. Does the car have a 3in O2? thats another cheap little bump in power.
I don't know if I have the DCR oil mod. What is it? As far as I know, yes I still have the bottle neck in the exhaust, and yes it does have a 3in O2. How hard is it to port? What do I need?
unfortunatly the only way to check for the oil mod is to pull the valve cover. here are the install instructions, this should help. As for the porting all you need is a set like this (they run around $39) And a set of Carbide Burrs like this ($15-$35) Porting just takes a level head and patience, there are lots of how tos online and if you have any specific questions feel free to ask me.
Another cheap bump is to get rid of the breather and hook it back up to the intake. The ECU pulls 3 to 5 degrees with a breather vented to atmosphere.
Already took care of that one. I guess next is a boost leak test. I have the parts to make the tester, just need to put them together. I also don't have an air compressor.
Before you even consider changing anything get the system tight and running well. Boost leak test is a must. A compressor was probably the best investment I ever made. I highly recommend one of you are going to work on cars at all, also handy around the house.
